First, from the Google Form I include at the bottom of the newsletter, and then, me on a soapbox:
Yes.*
First, let me say I'm sorry you're experiencing the very shitty limbo of job-hunting. It's bleak out there right now!!! Extremely talented people are losing their jobs every day because of poor stewardship of newsrooms and the fact that companies are still trying to make money off of content like it's 1992. It seems like every application is a cry into the void. But I'll tell you what a very good editor once told me: It's not a "No," to you, it's a "Yes," to someone else. In this industry, it's not a matter of talent. So many people are talented. Managers could be hiring for "cultural fits," for a quota, for school names, for nepotism, for star-charts, for a hundred different reasons outside of what you bring to the table. You can't control that. What you can control is how you frame your resume for each workplace, and how you demonstrate what makes it unique.
Also, anecdotally, I was on the job-hunt in 2020 for six months living in my parent's basement before I got four job offers in a single weekend. It's extremely stupid, but sometimes, time is all it takes. Best of luck, anon, we're all pulling for you, and congratulations on graduating!
