I'm Not Perfect (But I'm Perfect For You)
"We're not faking, is this the life we're giving?"
Lately I’ve been thinking about the word “perfect”, mostly as it pertains to the ways we present ourselves to the outside world—what is revealed, what is kept private. I’ve been thinking about filters, and the lengths some people go to in order to cover flaws that are facets of both their surface presentation and disposition. I’ve been thinking about the differences between power and weakness, and what constitutes a balance between the two.
In its simplest definition, the word “perfect” refers to something without flaws, or something that is in a state of flawlessness.
The notion of perfection is not only attributed to external presentation. If someone comes up with a witty response to something and it’s well received, it’s common to reply by saying only one word. “Perfect”.
