When to Power Through
From an older version of my brain, to yours.

It’s not you, it’s me…
I skipped the Musings last month for a couple of reasons. First, I forgot. Second, the reason I forgot was because I was deep deep deep in prep work for this upcoming fundraiser—I still am lolsob
Third (which is more than a couple, I know), I was exhausted. This doesn’t really seem worth mentioning because I often feel exhausted, to be really honest. But some things are worth powering through for, y’know?
And this online auction is one of them.
We have a 6-person organizing committee + a 3-person advisory committee. In other words, we are small but mighty! The Transgender Law Center is a vital non-profit working within the American legal system on behalf of trans people and their rights all across that country. (Click through to watch a short video about their work.)
In addition to organizing, I’m also offering one of my go-to items for auctions: a Personal Librarian service. That sounds intriguing, doesn't it? Yeah it does.
Please click through to check out the ~200 items we currently have on offer. You can peek at all the items without a sign-in.
If you want to create a watchlist of items and be able to bid, though, please join the auction. Bidding starts next week on Wednesday March 26th.
If you’re not sure why this is an important cause, I encourage you to read about the existential challenges facing trans people in the United States. Existential.
And let’s face it: what happens in the States—our current geopolitical tensions notwithstanding—trickles or floods into Canadian politics and society sooner or later. Though…I don’t need to live in the States to feel the threat of anti-trans legislation. I live in Alberta, which passed 3 anti-trans laws in December.
I’m not a lawyer or a legislator. I will never enter politics, and I don’t have impact-policy levels of wealth. But I want to do something. This fundraiser is one small way I can contribute to the fight for human rights, and to the battle against the wave of fascist governments and policies we’re experiencing and witnessing at home, and all around the world.
I hope you’ll join me. If not this auction, then please search for some way you can support the most vulnerable among us. These are the communities most heavily and easily targeted. (And heck, you don’t need to tell me or anyone else. I do other actions, too, that I don’t talk about.)
Trans rights are human rights. I don’t need to be a parent to trans people to know that. I just need to have empathy. A strong sense of justice helps, too.
Thank you to everyone who took the time to send me messages following January’s Musings. Your kindness was a balm.
Sadly, we’ve had another death in the family recently. We’re okay, for what it’s worth, but I do want to urge everyone: please make or update your will, if you have children or any assets whatsoever. I know that seems like a silly and perhaps gauche thing to say at such times, but life isn’t about avoiding awkwardness. Without a viable will to guide your loved ones, you add so much extra heartache for them after you’re gone.
