What do you long for?

This is a question Saifa asks when he places a hand on someone’s chest during a somatic session.

During our first year building the Strategy Lab for Intersex Movements, we’ve asked this question often.

SLIM is now one (1) year old. 🎂🎉 And we’ve seen lots of moments that represent what we long for, in terms of how we do intersex activism:

• Talking across borders with events in live-time English and Spanish, thanks to the support of our language justice colleagues.

• Making time to laugh, kvetch, and dream of futures beyond the limitations of the medical and legal systems that disappoint us.

• Admiring the leadership of Global South intersex groups, queer ancestors, Palestinians, and all peoples resisting genocide.

• (± Happy) crying over coming out of isolation with music and storytelling at the Polycystic Ovary Salon.

• Breaking bread with three generations of intersex people while facilitating workshops at interACT’s summer youth wellness retreat.

• Protecting each other’s health by masking, testing, and filtering air to guard against Covid-19 and other nasties.

• Resting to stay in this for the long haul.
