African Diaspora event recording + will you take a short survey? 📝

Word is out on SLIM’s Intersex Experiences Across the African Diaspora panel:

…this is by far the best class my students will ever have. Wow–you brought us to church, you uprooted the church, you brought us into our bodies, and nourished us deeply. —Kelsey, LCSW-R, Social Work Instructor

I need the day long panel session ASAP!!!!! This was INCREDIBLE. —Jahni

What do you long for?

What do you long for?

This is a question Saifa asks when he places a hand on someone’s chest during a somatic session.

During our first year building the Strategy Lab for Intersex Movements, we’ve asked this question often.

SLIM is now one (1) year old. 🎂🎉 And we’ve seen lots of moments that represent what we long for, in terms of how we do intersex activism:

The PCOSalon last Thursday was beautiful. Twelve countries represented at the bilingual discussion about all things polycystic ovaries!

While our communal share session won’t be public, the panelists’ presentations are up on the SLIM website.

Check out the evening’s spoken presentations (English and Spanish) and links to PCOS resources! 🍇

Let's talk androgens! Join the convo on PCOS on 10/23

Do you have polycystic ovaries? You probably know someone who does.

6-13% of ovaries are polycystic, AND, 1-2% of all people are born with anatomical or hormonal variations noticeable enough to be labeled by medicine as intersex. These groups have, for a long time, been kept from each other, despite their common interests.

Across language and anatomical variations, we hear a lot of the same things about our health needs, medical mistrust, hair, and hormones. There’s some overlap here. And we’re getting into it!

🌟 Join the convo at the PCOSalon zoom on Thursday, October 23 🌟

SLIM 🍎 Back to School News

We've been quiet... because we are planning for a full fall of 2025 and beyond!

Hello from the Strategy Lab for Intersex Movements summer planning retreat! (aka the kitchen, where we are making muesli and yams, respectively)

Hans and Saifa smiling in the kitchen, pointing to a wall of sticky notes from the planning retreat

Cultural work—stories, art, and relationships—is what makes movements human. We think intersex organizing needs more room for that. Our fall slate includes developing an advisory board, fundraising, and putting on a second virtual event.

Panel recording + resources: Intersex Futures Beyond Law and Medicine

Welcome to the SLIM email club!

Hello to everyone who signed up for Strategy Lab for Intersex Movements update emails! Thank you for being here with us.

We're interested in moving slow, respecting your attention, and getting away from big tech so we can organize together. So here's some things to know about how our emails will work:

  1. We'll communicate when we have something to say. Emails may come about once a month, or a few times a year. We don't use other social media platforms for the above reasons. If we're hosting an event, we'll email you, because you're invited.
  2. We'll respect your privacy. We don't collect any data about subscribers besides the email address we need to send things to. We never share your information. Hop on or off the email bus as needed!
  3. This is a magic, interactive email. Anyone who's here can connect with each other. You can leave a comment that other subscribers can read by going to the bottom of the email where it says "Leave a comment on the web." We, and others, want to know what's coming up for you! Please be respectful, on topic, etc.

Will we see you Tuesday? Dreaming up *Intersex Futures Beyond Law & Medicine*

Welcome to the email newsletter of the Strategy Lab for Interesex Movements!

First up: You’re invited to our virtual panel on intersex autonomy, authoritarianism, and embodiment: Intersex Futures Beyond Law & Medicine. It's free on Zoom, on Tuesday, May 13th from 7:00-8:30 pm EST, with live Spanish interpretation.

We'll discuss how anti-trans bills keep forced surgeries on intersex kids going. We’ll make space for our anger with the constraints of legal and medical systems. And we’ll hear from five intersex panelists—doctors, communicators, and artists—who will share their work and their hopes for what's next, with an open chat and Q&A.

Expecting a spirited and interactive session with folks from all corners of law, medicine, bioethics, journalism, and the arts.
