SAIL: Open (as in free) Online Conference

September 2, 2025

About five years ago, a group of us were working on a Centre of Excellence bid in Australia - a large national grant that brings together universities from across the country on a focused area of research - in our case, how AI impact’s education. The Centre wasn’t funded, unfortunately, but the process served as a launch point to this newsletter, GRAILE, and an annual conference: Empowering Learners for the Age of AI.

The conference is free and fully online, running Oct 7-9. You can register here (we have sold out every year so far, so I recommend you sign up early). The event is global with speakers from USA, EU, Mexico, Latin America, China, Singapore, Japan, UK, and Australia. Please share with colleagues, friends, and neighbors. Maybe some enemies if they are into AI and education - it might make them more likable.

This year, we’ve broadened our focus with an outstanding group of keynote presenters: presidents panel, a focus on creativity, the labor market, future skills, building AI products, and new models of universities (think cooperatives). We’ll post our calendar of sessions and panels shortly (we’re still pulling together a few final panels - some are already posted on the site).

Suggestions are always welcomed!
