Good day Fellow Geographers

As you know, the South African National Geography Olympiad (SANGO) is growing from strength to strength, in 2021 we managed to run both SANGO Senior (18th May) and SANGO Junior (21st September 2021) - as well as send a South African Team (Redhill School), albeit virtually  - to represent us at the International Geography Olympiad (iGeo) in Istanbul, Turkey. Congratulations Team!

At our recent SGM we elected 3 new members to our National Steering Committee, through a competitive process of application and submission of CVs. All members on this committee are volunteers, passionate about Geography! No remuneration is paid apart from the Project Manager and IT Support Roles (which is a budgeted item and part of the annual running costs of SANGO).

Allow me to e-introduce our team of 11 people to you:

Chairperson:        Dr Clinton van der Merwe (SAGTA, SSAG and the University of Pretoria)

Project Leader:     Prof. Tracey McKay (SSAG and the University of South Africa)

Project Manager:  Mr Milton Milaras (SSAG)

Treasurer:            Mrs Amanda Louw (SAGTA)

IT Support:          Mr Greg Bengis

Committee Members:

Mrs Pam Esterhuysen (SAGTA & SSAG); Ms Tess Uren (SAGTA and Boksburg High School); and Ms Angela Phocas (SAGTA, previously Redhill School, now at St John’s College). Mrs Tanya Verhoef (SAGTA and Midstream College) – unfortunately she has resigned as of 31st September 2021.
