Roguelike Celebration Preview Event: This Weekend!

As the polymorph trap takes effect your silver dragon scale mail seems unaffected, until you realize the scales make up the entirety of your now draconic body. You take a seat to contemplate this drastic change, and Bojolali the shopkeep suddenly taps your clawed hand, handing you 9 zorkmids. Mysterious, until you stand and realize you've laid an egg. What an odd place this dungeon is.

Fun fact, those are all real things that can happen in NetHack, a fact we learned this week. You know what else is this week? The Roguelike Celebration Preview Event, this very weekend, at 2 PM PDT (21:00 UTC) on Sunday, September 13th.

It's not too late to grab a free ticket so you can join us in our online multiplayer social space, where we will be able to hang out, explore this year's new theme, and enjoy three exciting talks!

  • Martin Pichlmair, founder of three game studios and holder of the delightful academic title Doctor of Technology will be presenting "Ancient Roguelikes: The Pre-History of Roguelike Games".
  • Greg L, lifelong designer of everything from million+ player video games to paper puzzles, will be sharing "Bitwise Black Magic: How to Computer, Better Faster Stronger".
  • And finally Jamie Brittain, television writer for two decades on shows like Skins and Kiss Me First, now lead writer at Maverick Games, will present "Don't Save The @: What Roguelikes Teach Us About Story Structure".

We hope to see you there!
