What day is it? Oh, right. Tuesday.

Hello Readers, All,

Thanks again to my intrepid partner for reminding me that it’s Tuesday, aka Newsletter Day. We’re roughly at Week Nine of our city’s “pause”. We count ourselves lucky on a number of fronts. We’re not severely restricted to our home and can get out to walk whenever we’d like. We can still afford to pay the rent and buy groceries and we like each others’ cooking. I had a tough moment last night as the 7pm cheers erupted and found myself close to crying right out there on Broadway and 110th Street. It builds up, ya know?

We’ve begun having some nice weather with predictable crowds of non-social distancing people running around, many of them with their masks under their chins. Me, I stay in on those kinds of days.

I think I’ll stay in, thanks

I stay in and ponder our future. My ponderings are curiously negative. Go figure.

Can we ever really decommodify?

One aspect of our immediate future is the cancellation of Burning Man. This would have been my 8th time out and AleXander’s 13th. Guess our gear will sit quietly in the storage unit in Sacramento and we’ll see what 2021 brings.

And since I’m standing out on Broadway, nearly in tears, let’s go for broke, shall we?

And suddenly there are a lot of us going off at the same time

My fiction contribution this week grew out of a pair of photos AleXander took outside of Sotheby’s several years ago. What if the woman in that painting can see and hear us?

And AleXander’s contribution this week is chilling and darkly funny in equal measure. You’ve been warned.

Outside The Gates Of Eden

Earlier in the week I sent out a request for help in selecting six short stories that I’m going to self-publish in an anthology. I like to think I have fairly reasonable expectations when it comes to engagement and response. Can I say it was thin? Like two responses. But, of course, two is not none so what am I crying about? Consider taking a look at those stories. Even reading the opening paragraph or two will give you an idea if that story should be in the anthology.

And if you’ve got better things to do with your time (because we all do!), cool. You subscribed here which is awesome and a lot of subscribers are actually readers, too. Major molto super wonderful!

Thank you.
