Well hasn't THIS been a week?

Oh my Readers All, I sure hope all is at least semi-ok in your part of the forest.

What the HELL is going on? A month ago I was chatting with a friend in Shanghai who was shrugging the whole Corona virus thing off. Wuhan is nearly 1,000 miles away; nothing to worry about. Um, no actually. It turns out we all have a lot to worry about.

This is pretty unprecedented in my experience. For the only time that I can ever remember the entire world is thinking about, worried about, wondering about the same thing (credit to AleXander for bringing that up).

Last Friday I wrote my first Corona virus dispatch from NYC:

How worried should we be?

Today I wrote my second and in those very few days a lot has changed:

Our new normal but not the one that will last

We’re well stocked with groceries, movies, porn, and books. Our Mayor is warning that an order to Shelter in Place may be imminent while the Governor is saying that’s not going to happen. We count ourselves lucky in that we live two blocks from Central Park where we can at least get out for permitted exercise if that order happens.

And throughout I need to remember how to practice Radical Acceptance (which doesn’t require liking whatever I’m accepting):

A big part of what’s getting me through this is writing and I took a minute to recall Two Stories Up, a fiction-writing collaboration with AleXander back in 2016/17:

The success of a failed project

And dreadful as this whole sad, sick, miserable election has become I needed to share AleXander’s piece about what that subversive Break up Big Banksy is doing to support the only candidate who is actually interested in representing the will of the people (thanks, AleXander and BuBB):

Given the whiplash we’re having over the events of the past week, I cannot fathom what the coming week holds. But if I’m vertical, sucking air and able to reach the keyboard, you will have the newsletter with a handful of new stories. And, do check in if you get the chance, please. Let me know how you’re holding up and what your strategies are.

And, as ever, thank you!
