Timing is everything and mine sucks

Hello, Readers All,

I was feeling all smug about my timing until recently. Hey, I'm the one who managed to get laid off in time to benefit from extension after extension of unemployment benefits thanks to our friend, the virus (thanks, no thanks).

When the Failed Real Estate Developer in Chief did his familiar wreck-it-and-then-backtrack cha cha cha, my partner and I were put into a tough spot. Along with a LOT of other people. However, my unemployment benefits have been on hold for a month while I awaited my replacement Social Security card to verify my identity to the folks who have been sending me benefits for a year. Go. Figure.

So, no income for a month now. The SS card arrived two days ago just in time for the whole jangly old mess to go south. Who knows when we'll receive any further benefits. But the rent is paid for January. So really we're ok. For now.

Welp, guess it's time to just go for a walk in the snow in Central Park. Come with?

Our 840 acres of backyard

While pieces about writing tend to do well on Medium, I generally shy away from including them here. You're usually wearing your reading hats here. What do you care about how the magic gets done?

Or maybe you do. What do I know?

Keeps the Reader

Another type of story that does well with readers (and that I never shy away from sharing) is anything about my cat.

What do you mean, she can’t live forever?

Moving to fiction, I hopped on the old JT Leroy bandwagon (ask the Google) for this sly snip of a story.

And AleXander's piece this week is about his ongoing Topsy Turvey project. You'll see:

And there we are. Week 62 of this newsletter. So far, so good. I really am wowed by the generosity of several of you, btw. Setting my hat by the door seemed like a polite way to gauge if what I'm putting out there is hitting any actual eyeballs. I've considered setting up a Patreon account, but that's a bit too pushy for me. One regular dropper-of-coin into the hat tells me that he considers this his subscription (thanks, Dave, youse a peach!).

Given the current situation, you'll forgive me if I lift the hat and draw a bit of extra attention to it here by the door. Thank you, your patience is deeply appreciated. Even more appreciated, that again this past week a whole honking lot of you opened the email and a not insignificant number of you clicked on one or more stories. Huzzah!!!!!

I'll try to keep the good stuff coming and a thousand sincere thank yous for subscribing, reading, and responding. Youse are ALL peaches!

Remington.write@gmail.com is where you get to tell me in no uncertain terms anything you feel like telling me.

Until next week, let's keep trudging together, hmm?
