Still here, still at it

Hello, Readers All!

It's that time of year...although, here in New York it's been that time of year since about a week before Halloween. image.png

Before I disappear into the special hole I reserve for this time of year, I wanted to check in with a quick update and something new and brilliant from my partner in life and art, AleXander.

Speaking of......here's a quote AleXander found on Humans of New York that really hit home for me and I suspect others:

This "I write because I can't not write" thing is true, but I got a little taste of attention and money early on with Medium and later with other platforms and it worked on me. I found myself trying to replicate the "success" of stories like these.

And no matter what you do, you will never look like this

The one thing I kept to during the years of (ok, I'll say it) churning out near-daily pieces for those paying platforms was that I did it because it was fun. And it was! It was fabulous to finally have a platform and readers and the chance to build an audience while writing whatever I felt like writing. Loved that. (Love YOU)

But once it wasn't fun anymore I got to see what I was producing.

Ok, not all of it was crap, but once I started pulling essays into "Plague Year", yeah. Ouch. There were probably about another twenty essays or more from that period of time that could only kindly be called "content". Ack.

So now I'm pulling some of my short stories into e-books and I published the first one a week ago.

As I have been losing interest in publishing on those platforms, I'm thrilled to see that my partner (who it has to be said has never churned out any work) is finally getting some serious attention and credit for his most recent anti-war piece.

Armistice Is UnAmerican!. The Never Ending Parade Of U.S… | by aleXander hirka | Counter Arts | Nov, 2023 | Medium

The Never Ending Parade Of U.S. Militarism

Not only has this provocative and powerful piece been garnering him some well deserved money, it's also stirring up important conversations about the nature of this country's dogged determination to keep wars going all over the world while filling the pockets of weapons manufacturers and their investors. The comments are nearly as fascinating as the piece itself.

In addition to the dabbling I am doing in publishing e-books I've got a new goodie in the works. More on that as it comes together.

And finally, at this point, I'm planning to start the (possible) final rewrite of "Graceless" in December.

All of which is to say that while the hat remains by the door again tonight, I won't be around much until I get some traction in these other projects. Your coins in the hat are a Big Deal and deeply appreciated.

So I once more thank you humbly. It's pretty impressive how many people here continue to enjoy the work I do get done and are willing to hang in there with me when I'm not - ahem - churning out new weekly work.

This of course means that all seamlessly seamed theories as well as all watertight alibis are welcome at: Remington.write@gmail.com

Time to get back to work! RW
