Don't Say It

Hello, Readers All, Oh go ahead. You may as well wish me - the woman who never wanted or had kids as well as the one who regularly thanks the gods for those two facts - a Happy Mother’s Day. You certainly won’t be the first today or the first every daggone year.

But if we’re talking Mother’s Day, let’s take a minute to remember WTF the holiday was originally intended to do: Stop War (Quaint, I know).

Opinion: Don’t Bother With the Flowers this Mother’s Day | Remington Write | NewsBreak Original

Instead revive the original intent of the “holiday” It’s that time of year again. The day when everyone decides every woman they see is magically a Mother and so every woman gets wished a Happy Mother’s Day. Awwwww, so sweet.

Oddly enough, there are actually commenters here who took offense at this essay. Peace cannot get a fair go of it among humans.

Trees, however, might. It’s not a for sure thing, but trees do stand a better chance of at least not starting flame wars.

Another fairly safe bet is nostalgia. Here, have some fond memories of a time that’s long gone. The truckstops, however, remain if that’s what floats your boat.

Gazing fondly through the haze of an unreliable memory. Those two truck stops outside of the extremely small town of Lodi, Ohio were the natural place to wind up after closing the bars. In fact, if memory hasn’t shredded completely here, I even showed up at the bright new Truckstops of America with my folks on occasion after closing one of the roadhouses they frequented. The legal drinking age in Ohio then was 18 so occasionally Mom and Dad would invite me to join them for One Up The Road.

Enough with the warm fuzzies. I can always count on my partner in life and art to snap things back into focus with wit and insight. Maybe THIS is the way to peace?

There Are Men To Wake Up, Wars To End

Hat’s by the door along with a very special little wink of thanks to a certain Reader who dropped a welcome contribution last week (you rock, CM!).

Possible interesting doings brewing. Suffice to say I finally made it to the Rose Reading room at the main library on 42nd Street to do a full read-through of “Graceless” (more winks of gratitude for my revered beta readers in the room).

More will be revealed.
