Book Fairs, Bookstores, and Community
Hello, Readers All,
Looks like I'm not exactly nailing this monthly newsletter business here, am I? I'm guessing no one's too fussed up about that and, hey, here we are again. Me writing, you reading. Just like old times.
Yesterday, I spent a big chunk of the day at the annual Rainbow Book Fair at The Center. My editor, novelist Jeff Round, was in town for the fair and was happy to let me leave a couple of copies of "Plague Year" on his table.
I did sell one copy..........to a friend. Did it ever occur to me to get a couple of nice promotional photos at the fair. Duh. Nope.
Something else that has somehow escaped my attention all these years is the importance of finding a place in a community of writers. To be honest, past experiences with my fellow writers haven't been much fun. Apparently, however, I just hadn't found the right tribe.
It turns out that the community waiting to welcome me all this time has been that of gay male writers of fiction and poetry. Who knew?
Newsflash: I've totally ditched Newsbreak. They just make everything too complicated and weird for the pittance they pay. So, ga-bye, Newsbreak.
Here's one fairly recent bit I published on Medium.

Notes from a sinking New York City
More recently, like today in fact, we found ourselves at a street fair on Second Avenue. That was fun.

In addition to finding myself in a, well yeah, brotherhood of writers who are actively advocating for me (reviewing my work, providing book blurbs, telling others about my work, recommending small publishers, etc), I've also scoped out a couple of local bookstores who are open to selling "Plague Year".
Additionally, and mysteriously, it appears that print copies of the book are now available at Barnes & Noble. No idea how that happened but if any of you have any luck buying a copy there, do let me know!

While I run around knocking on walls that sometimes turn out to be doors, my partner in life and art has been hard at work at his Fables series.

And that's it. You see right, that old hat is still sitting there by the door. All coinage is revered and appreciated!
