Resolutions
I’m not a big fan of New Year’s. I feel like it’s the holiday equivalent of pressuring a 30 year-old to get married, using an artificial marker (a date) as a way to say you “should have finished X” (a resolution). Resolutions also sometimes feel like a way to keep picking at myself and saying I’m not good “yet” until I “read 50 books/write for an NBC show/lose 5000 pounds by drinking holy raw alkaline water” or whatever dumb shit.
To me, New Year’s is the best time to assess what I’m in a good place to try more of, not criticize everything that I lack. That’s why I’ve always been a fan of “general” resolutions. “Move more.” “Cook more.” “Get even slightly better at Tamil.” If I’m getting just a little better at a few things every year, no matter what changes are hurled at me, that’s a huge achievement.
This year my resolution was “make a movie.” And thanks to you guys, I did that.
The rest of my resolutions this year were more personal: gain confidence, be a better friend, blah blah blah. And I think I did that too.
So now for next year’s resolutions. The job market is bad. I’ve had some personal struggles lately. I have no idea what 2026 will hold. 2025 literally started on fire. So my professional goal currently is: create in a new way.
This industry keeps changing, and I can’t keep following a moving goal post. Maybe movies won’t even exist next year and I’ll have to turn my feature into verticals and AI myself out of them. The only thing in my control is keeping my work interesting and inspiring for myself. So I don’t know what “a new way to create” means yet. A drawing class? Being bad at pottery? A Twitch channel? I don’t know what it will be but I’m excited to figure it out.
And as for my personal goals? Judging by how hard 2025 was, I feel I can only realistically ask one thing of myself: be brave and keep going.

How do you feel about New Year’s? What are your resolutions? And would you watch me play the Sims on Twitch?
Hope you’re having a good holiday season.
