I have been trying to practice gratitude more lately, and among the things I am eternally grateful for is live performing.

My friend/the director of my feature, Sandeep Parikh, told me recently that live shows are going to become like concerts soon, because we are kind of starved for that level of intimacy with art. Sure, you can listen to your favorite band’s album, but there will be nothing like seeing them live. Yes, you can watch your favorite comic on TV (maybe? if Hollywood will give them work?), but seeing them live in a never-before-seen show with that particular audience on that particular night? Hoo boy, that’s special.

And ESPECIALLY as an improviser, I feel this on stage. That particular audience on that particular night helps form that particular show. It will never exist again. And the next show will also be beautiful in its own unique way. And that is beautiful to me.
