I now love the WNBA?
I recently went to my first Sparks game and had an INCREDIBLE time.
And it made me think of all the hobbies I could have that I don’t yet know about, and why I haven’t gravitated toward certain things thus far in my life.
With sports, there is a high barrier for entry. It feels like I can never catch up to the history, rules, and lore. And that the gatekeepers are, uh, maybe not my speed.
But when I went to the Sparks game with my friend/Sparks professor, Kimia Behpoornia, basketball felt more approachable to me. And that was COOL. But also made me MAD - what other shit do I not know I like because it seems inaccessible to me?! It reminds me of the very first time I played DND on Dimension 20’s Escape from the Bloodkeep. I had no idea someone like me could play DND in any capacity, but I had also never had someone like Brennan or Amy or Erika to explain it to me in a way I could understand. And that is so huge.
So let’s go out and find those people who want to meet you where you’re at and welcome you into their hobby. And then let’s all proverbially start considering if they should buy season tickets to every WNBA game.
xo,
Rekha
P.S. Guess what? I have MERCH NOW! You can check it out here.
