I was watching Georgina Rose’s video concerning Thelemites who are “feeling some kind of way” about Crowley and his association with the religion of Thelema.

I do recommend watching the video because I kinda land where she does. Think of it this way, we’re in the same neighborhood but just living in different buildings.

First, I want to go back a bit. In Fear And Loathing In Algeria, I detail how Crowley groomed Victor Neuburg for three years, put him through hell and ended up doing a long ritual out in the Algerian Desert that resulted in a literal real-world wizard battle that was very nearly, alarmingly, to the death.

This was weeks of intensity and Neuburg, I never told you about what happened to him.

He finally had all he could take. He told Crowley that it was too much. He couldn’t go on. He was well past the limits of what he could find acceptable.

Crowley responded by calling him a coward and leaving him on his own.

I want you to keep something in mind. This all happened in the early 20th Century. Crowley didn’t de-brief him, help him re-integrate, allow someone else in his organization take him under their wing and mentor him. He was just out.

Neuburg also could not talk about what it was he did. These Secret Orders such as the O.T.O. are sworn to secrecy. To an outsider that may seem shady until you realize that there are Walmart employees, they have meetings you don’t know about, they don’t talk about and I can tell you from experience…there’s nothing to talk about. Neuburg couldn’t talk about the ritual work. Who would understand? Neuburg really couldn’t talk about what he ended up doing with Crowley during The Invocation of Pan, at the time, that was a criminal offense. He couldn’t risk that getting out.

According to most who knew Neuburg, his poetry flourished and life seemed pretty great for him after that was all over. A few years later, things would begin to take a hard left turn. The Pan Working haunted him for decades until his passing from tuberculosis in 1940 at the age of 57.

If you want to call Crowley problematic because of the language he used in his letter I’ve only referred to by Monsters in Magick Without Tears, fair, but again, if you’re going to eschew nuance and context of the point he was trying to make, then don’t expect me to listen in kind. I still argue that you’re looking at the wrong elements or the elements that make Crowley actually villainous. I expect superficial people to only regard the superficial.

Personally, I don’t idolize the man, I do find him fascinating. He was a case study in what happens when someone has all the money and none of the oversight or accountability.

Here’s where I get back to it. Georgina Rose takes a nuanced approach. So do I.

If a Cancel mob were to form right now to come after me for defending Crowley’s work staying with Thelema, The object is to see to it that I am silenced and made to suffer until I acquiesce to demands. Let's call it what it is, social coercion dressed up as justice.

Okay so where does any of that affect Crowley? He’s gone up the tree.

On top of him not giving the first inklings of a single scintilla of a care in the world, the guy is not only buried an hour’s drive from where I sit, think of how this guy lived his life.

I mean I have documented in these newsletters and missives a clear set of indicators that this man was confrontationally and even obstinately bisexual in days where that would land him in prison (Oscar Wilde himself, being a notable example) but did that little thing called “Whatever The Fuck I Damned Well Please And When I Like To Do Such, Thank You Very Much” well before it was cool to start announcing it. He used people up. Burned them out and left them emotionally, spiritually and physically spent, shattered and fucked up beyond any chance of recovery in more than a few cases. If you think that’s all the more reason to cancel him…I think I just showed you, you’ve already lost. He won’t care.

Maybe these people are aware of that though…so what is the goal here? If the object is to then rid Thelema of Crowley entirely for all Thelemites, I advise every lodge of the O.T.O. to listen very carefully.

The entire point of Thelema is that you do the work to attain harmony with your True Highest Will, hence, Do What Thou Wilt Shall Be The Whole of The Law. That’s the entire point but if you’re still in doubt, read on.

If one has joined Thelema in order to fundamentally alter it, they have disregarded the True Will of the others and will act to violate it. They are not there for the same reasons that everyone else has joined and has had absolute zero complaints with. At that point, you have every right to respond and address it and I strongly advise you to do so, swiftly and decisively.

Here, they’d have no place at all. That’s not what The Structure, The Library or The Standard is about.

If a Thelemite doesn’t want the association with Crowley, then that one can start a lodge, do a solo practice or continue with the rest of the lodge, as is.

The individual is joining a religion or sect that prides the individual doing individual work and attaining their highest will. They’re either there for that or they’re not.

I can tell you exactly why these people are doing this now; because they’re desperate. Keeping Crowley with Thelema and all facts associated with him for good or ill, means that you have to look at the man with discernment. He can be a mind to study, he can be a prophet if that’s what you want to believe, he can be a brilliant and prolific writer and he was certainly that and he can be a cautionary tale.

Now, if you’re thinking “Well we do away with Crowley, all should be fine.” Nope. Crowley, for some, acts like a mirror. When an extreme libertine shows them the damage that his lifestyle caused—devolving from discipline into hedonism—they see themselves reflected. And they don't like what stares back at them.

I know it would have attracted me and I wouldn’t have liked the reflection of myself then.

Trying to alter having any reflection at all (sounds familiar…) is attempting to break the mirror so that they can justify acting however they please while leaving ruin in their wake.

To allow the choice is in alignment with Thelema’s overall goals. To be this “inclusive” is essentially organizational suicide. They don’t have any networks that do anything. Their power is dwindling and that’s why they’re desperate. They want one more trophy on the way out.

If it’s me running an O.T.O. Lodge, Thelemites have reasonable choices; practice their own self-styled thing on their own, find another path that actually lands where they are or come in and show some respect and get ready to be shaped and to have their world-view challenged.

That’s it.

I say that because, while I’m not running a lodge, I am running a solo church and that’s the only choice I’m willing to reasonably give anyone here because this ain't a guru game. I have all these damn books to study, and I'm going back to basics. Anyone who wants the same thing knows where the library is.

Here’s the other thing, Crowley was very visibly “problematic” to the point where we do not need to slap a warning label or a parental advisory or several chapters in how he was this or that kind of '-ist’ or ‘-phobe’.”

We can just, you know…read his work.

Look, I’ll be honest, these days, if I get my hands on something like say…this…

I usually skip anything that hasn’t been written by the original author because, these days, I’m expecting the condescension of being treated like a child of hands being placed ever-so-gently on my shoulders while someone stands uncomfortably close and drones on with “…now I need to prepare you for…” No you don’t. Get back. You don’t know me like that.

I will be 48 years old, I am damn near 50. These people who are perpetually offended do not speak for me so to the modern occultists who keep writing commentary with the books, I’ll be honest, I skip it. I don’t read it. You’re kinda wasting energy and time. I don’t care about the lectures one way or the other, I bought the book because of the original author. I don’t even know who half of you are and some of you I know …for all the wrong reasons so when I buy a book, say…like this…

I’ll happily show you how that will go for me. Spoiler Alert:

Oh they put the same thing in the game books too. I ignore that as well. The only reason I’m aware of it is that they start with his history, publication, childhood, etc and then when it comes to “he used bad words and was a bad man” I skip and move on because I’m gonna read what I, and this is key, enjoy or want to learn. You have nothing there but complaining about what the author was like and I don’t give the first particle of a care in the world that you were looking for. Save a few trees, I’m sure the environment will thank you or just use those pages easily for material that actually matters and is pertinent to the actual subject of the book. That, I’ll read.

In short. Leave Crowley where he is, problems and all because the first kid with a terminal case of affluenza, no accountability and more balls than brain cells decides to sit his ass in The Triangle of Art while he has you summon something you know you shouldn’t, how then do you explain why that idea is dangerous to do now or at all? You have thrown out the historical context and you expect that to go well?

I will say only this, if you’re attempting to actively become a cult, this is how it’s done.

While that may sound hyperbolic, it starts small, with a small acquiescence and then from there, it becomes exclusion, incrementally until the rift is formed because discernment got replaced with dogma. Look at how this has gone historically in the past decade alone and point out where I could possibly be wrong.

Having Crowley means discernment is on the table. Disagree over whether or not you will use his methods or his published work on your own, fine. If your True Will is rejecting it, but embracing the actual religion, then disregard but if someone else wants to look at it and use it, then they’re one hundred percent well within their rights to do so without consequences because there aren’t any and no one is the sole arbiter. Get rid of Crowley and you will see revisions in the history of Thelema and where it came from and then, it will fundamentally be altered until it’s unrecognizeable in everything but a symbol, a name, a bumper sticker and a trendy lifestyle brand. The pattern is right there in front of you and it’s in plain sight.
