Issue #5 - Starting a Creative Endeavor

Hello there!

I want to start this week's newsletter extending on the topic of agency from last week.

I read this wholesome post about how a husband and wife created a sense of community by starting to have coffee outside their home. Fast forward a couple of months, they now have regular local community events and a buzzing WhatsApp group. Reminds me of the Derek Sivers story about the dancing man and the first follower.

The concept of agency has been on the top of my mind for the last two to three weeks. If you want to read more about the concept, check out this amazing resource by George Mack.

Issue #4 - Vibe coding and being agentic

Long time, no see! It’s been over four years since the last update. A lot has happened but I will save it for later.

There’s been a lot of chatter about vibe coding. There’s so much changing everyday that it’s hard to form a concrete opinion on it. Irrespective of which side you are on, I do think we should not go to the extent of dunking on people who are new to programming and making costly errors. There will be a lot more non-programmers who will be building apps in the future and we should welcome them. There’s a certain schadenfreude at the moment, especially with things like this:

Some how posted about deleting stuff from the database using a command because someone leaked their keys when vide coding
Why though?

And this person being on the receiving end of it...

Issue #3 - Working Remote

Hello everyone!

This week I have been reconsidering how I work as well as how I organize things around me so that I can work effectively.

Why am I doing this only now even though most of us have been working from home for almost 10 months now?

Well, I have been doing this slowly over time but only strictly allocated time to review and take concrete actions this week.

Issue #2 - Taking notes

Hello everyone!

I hope you had good holidays. Happy New Year to you!

Information overload is as big a problem as it ever was. We are constantly consuming new information every day. This is one of the main reasons for the surge of weekly newsletters that curate the good stuff (like this one).

How can we do better in 2021?

Issue #1 - Learning from kids

Hello everyone!

I hope you are having good holidays!

My nephews (7 and 11) are staying with me and my family for a few days and these are easily the best days of 2020 for me. It has been over four years since I last met them in person. Even though it has been long since we met and the younger nephew was only 3 at that time, the love they have for me now makes me really happy. It feels like we have been meeting every day for the past four years.

My initial plan was to teach them something fun. They ended up teaching me something new. I’m not big into gaming. I play FIFA occasionally and that’s about it. Since PUBG is banned in India, most of the kids apparently are playing this game called “Free Fire”. My nephews asked me if I wanted to play with them and I couldn’t miss the opportunity to bond with them.
