Sunday

Sartre, in his book Nausea, said 3 pm was both too late and too early to do anything. Taken literally, this is nonsense. However, taken to capture a particular feeling, what he is actually describing is timelessness AKA Sunday. 3 pm on any given day gives off unmistakable perfect Sunday vibes. A Sunday demands blankets, and tea, and the feeling of sinking deep into a comfy timeless limbo. It asks for pause. For phones to be left in another room. For books to be raised comfortably to faces. For tea to be brewed. 3 pm is both too late and too early because it is no time at all. It is the grey area after lunch but not quite dinner. It is the time before Plans or Meeting Up For A Drink. It is a Sunday.

A Sunday at 3 pm, then, has double power. Some kind of peace waits for you safely ensconced in the many hours before the Sunday Scaries flood in. As such, Sunday demands books. Its very essence, its limbo life, depends on your sitting down comfortably and having a nice, good read.
