🏳️🌈🕯️ Last Monday, a man shot and killed two people and then himself in the parking lot of a gay bar in Tucson, Arizona, in an attack later confirmed by police to be a hate crime. The shooter was found with a list of other local LGBTQ+ businesses and a note was found in his home indicating that it was a targeted attack against the LGBTQ+ community.

🏳️🌈🩸 On Thursday, the FDA approved a new once-daily pill to treat HIV, designed for the estimated 5% of HIV-positive Americans whose HIV is already controlled but are unable to use any of the currently-available single-pill regimens.

🏳️🌈⚕️ Last Thursday, a report was released finding that 58% of LGBTQ+ adults delayed or postponed accessing healthcare during the past year, compared to 38+ of non-LGBTQ+ people, and that the two main reasons for forgoing care were cost and the inability to get an appointment. Among trans adults, 82% had reported delaying care in the past year.

🏳️⚧️⚕️⚖️ On Wednesday, 22 states, including Michigan, filed a lawsuit against the Trump administration’s proposed rule barring federal Medicaid funding from covering gender-affirming care for anyone under age 18 and Children’s Health Insurance Plan funding from covering this care for anyone under age 19. The lawsuit argues that the federal rule oversteps states’ rights by regulating the practice of medicine and excluding care deemed medically necessary by the states.

🏳️⚧️🏛️🏫 On Tuesday, the Department of Justice sued Kansas City Public Schools over a policy that allows on a case-by-case basis for trans students to request that their parents not be present in meetings about their gender identity or transition, typically when students have concerns about their safety if unsupportive parents learn about their trans identity. This is the first lawsuit by the Trump administration to utilize FERPA (Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act) to assert parental access to information about a student's transition, such as preferred names and pronouns.

🏳️⚧️🏊🏛️ On Monday, a California judge dismissed a U.S. Department of Justice lawsuit that claimed that California's trans-inclusive sports policies violates Title IX. Although the Supreme Court ruling in June did allow states to ban trans girls from competing in girls' sports, the ruling did not force states with trans inclusive policies to reverse their position.

🏳️⚧️🪖🏛️ On August 28th, the Trump administration sent a petition to the U.S. Supreme Court to intervene in a case challenging its ban on trans people in military service, seeking to overturn the D.C. Circuit Court's injunction blocking the removal of transgender troops and have the Supreme Court decide the case before the district court's scheduled trial on the legality of the ban.

🏳️⚧️⚕️🏛️ On Friday, the U.S. Department of Justice announced that it had reached a settlement with Mount Sinai Hospital System in New York under which the hospital will stop providing gender-affirming care to trans youth and will dedicate $2 million in free medical care to people who allege they were harmed by gender-affirming care.
