I started this in my bedroom closet

From $500 to over $1 million in support

Dear QTP Cutie,

Did you know I started The Queer Trans Project in my bedroom closet just five years ago?

That’s Me!

I had a $500 grant and a clear goal to help people like me.

I was 22.
I was eager.
And I wanted to create access for other queer and trans people of color who did not have it.

My lived experience as a Black trans human grounds everything we do. Every program we create. Every partnership we build. Every decision we make.

Growing up in a state where anti-trans legislation continues to rise, I knew how important that work could be.

Since 2021, The Queer Trans Project has distributed over $1 million in gender-affirming items to people across all 50 states and U.S. territories.

But the truth is, the need has only grown.

Every day, we receive requests from people who do not have access to gender-affirming care because of cost, safety, or where they live.

And while we have grown, we are still a small team powered by volunteers, community, and people like you.

We truly cannot do this without you.

When someone receives a kit, it is more than just items.

It is the opportunity to fully be your authentic self.
To see themselves more clearly.
To feel a sense of alignment they may not have experienced before.

We have also learned something important.

Access does not stop at receiving a kit.

People need to know how to use what they receive in a way that feels safe and affirming.

That is why we have started creating educational videos to walk people through each product step by step.

How to bind safely
How to gaff and tuck
How to wear breast forms and bras
How to build an affirming makeup look

These are resources for people who may not have anyone to turn to or learn from.

A few years into this work, I realized something else.

There were not many options for binding tape that matched my skin tone.

So I created Gender Grip to offer something more inclusive while keeping it accessible.

Every purchase helps fund the work we do at The Queer Trans Project.

Today, our focus is simple.

Keep sending gender-affirming care kits to the people who need them most.

If you are able, I am asking you to consider making a donation.

Donate to Queer Trans Project | Direct Aid & Gender-Affirming Kits

Support trans people with free kits, travel assistance, and essential care. Donate to Queer Trans Project and make an immediate impact.

Your support helps us reach the next person. Someone who may be feeling exactly the way I did when I first started this journey.

Thank you for being here.
Thank you for believing in this work. I see you.

With love,

Cielo Sunsarae
