QGCon 2025 Updates: Call for Volunteers

Calling all queer gamers! If you’re a rad, queer person interested in weird games and you want to help us run QGCon 2025, APPLY TO VOLUNTEER BY AUGUST 20!

Learn more & apply here: https://forms.gle/B1CgvuKGnTjCgdHY7

QGCon is 100% volunteer-run, including both our year-round organizers and the day-of event staff.  We need as much help as we can get to ensure that every event is a wonderful experience for everyone who attends – scholars, creators, players, artists, activists, and more!

QGCon 2025 will be held on September 26-28, 2025, in Montreal, Quebec. There will be talks, workshops, panels, and of course many queer games!

We are looking for help with the following in-person roles. These require no experience - anyone interested & passionate about queer games, who will be present in Montreal on September 26-28, can help with these!

  • Registration Table Volunteer - greets attendees, checks tickets, provides N95 masks to unmasked attendees, and oversees our nametag station.

  • Stream Runner - monitors the livestream in one of our conference rooms, and troubleshoots any technical difficulties.

  • Arcade Volunteer - greets arcade attendees, oversees our remote game stations, and ensures arcade presenters have what they need to showcase their games.

  • Floater - offers directions to attendees and moves between rooms to offer assistance where needed.

We are also seeking experienced volunteers to help with some coordination tasks. For these roles, we are looking for folks with relevant experience, either in professional, volunteer or social contexts. Please interpret "experience" broadly - if you think you qualify, you almost certainly do!

  • Overall Volunteer Coordinator - keeps track of volunteer schedules, ensures volunteers know where they are and what they are doing, liaises between organizers and volunteers. Requires experience running events and/or managing people in fast-paced situations.

  • Panel Moderator - assists panelists with setup and teardown, introduces panels, moderates Q&A, and jumpstarts question period if needed. Requires knowledge of academic spaces, confidence with public speaking, and an inquisitive attitude. Graduate students encouraged to apply!

  • COVID-19 Safety Coordinator - ensures attendees are complying with our COVID-19 safety protocols, ensures our protocols are effectively communicated to attendees, trains volunteers in ensuring COVID compliance, and intervenes with attendees if needed. Requires knowledge of COVID-19 safety and experience communicating safety protocols in public situations.

Additionally, we are seeking remote volunteers to help with our remote offerings! These positions do not require you to be in Montreal during the conference. Experience is required where indicated.

  • Stream Coordinator (Experience Required) - monitors our livestream, liases with chat moderators, and troubleshoots technical difficulties where necessary. Requires experience with livestreaming technology and platforms, especially OBS and Twitch.

  • Twitch Chat Moderator - monitors our Twitch chat, responds to comments, provides information on the conference when necessary, and silences/bans abusive chat when necessary.

  • Discord Moderator - monitors our Discord chat, responds to chats and comments, provides information on the conference when necessary, and silences/bans abusive chat when necessary.

For all volunteer positions, you must abide by the QGCon code of conduct, be at least 18 years of age, and be able to communicate in English. We have a strong preference for volunteers who can commit at least 8 hours of volunteer time over the course of the weekend.

The deadline to apply is August 20th, 2025. We will get back to you with next steps by August 25.

& if you’re coming to QGCon this year, don’t forget to buy your tickets via Eventbrite! Space is limited; secure your spot today!
