I'm in your inbox!

Hi all,

Welcome to the first newsletter from me. First, thank you so much for signing up. It means the world to know that someone is willingly letting me add to already overflowing inboxes. I promise to try not to send too many of these (my goal is one a week, but that may be lofty).

Why am I starting a newsletter? Well, first I love newsletters and subscribe to quite a few. There's something lovely about getting missives in my inbox. I always loved sending physical letters and newsletters feel the closest to that--a reminder of someone you like being out there and doing things. Second, with the downfall of Twitter, I've found I've lost a lot of the writing/reading community that meant so much to me. I like Bluesky a lot, I use Instagram, but I feel like so much is much more scattered now. Thirdly, I have an upcoming short story collection (Every Galaxy Is a Circle, forthcoming from JackLeg Press), am offering more online writing courses than ever, and have some other exciting things in the works, so this felt like a great way to keep people informed about those things while still building community and not just tweeting into the void.

What will this newsletter be about? Honestly, probably a lot of things. I'll definitely be sending writing craft based newsletters complete with writing prompts, I'll definitely talk about stuff I'm reading/viewing/playing/listening to that I'm enjoying because I love spreading the love of art, I'll likely ramble about food, and I might also include letters about monsters, horror, and other things that I do scholarship in.

Will this newsletter be as delightful as K.C. Mead-Brewer's Peacock Mantis Shrimp letters? No. Will it be as insightful about writing as Kathy Fish or Lincoln Michel or Matt Bell? No. Will it teach you a ton about publicity and the business of publishing like Cassie Mannes Murray's? Nope. Will it make you think about words and their power as much as Chris Corlew's? Again, no. In fact, maybe go subscribe to all of those and all the other amazing ones that I am currently blanking on (there are a lot!). But, will it be unabashedly mine? Filled with puns and Oreos and strange facts and an unending love for stories? Absolutely. If that's enough for you, than I'm so glad you're along on this journey with me.

--Chloe

P.S. Until May 1st, I'm running a giveaway. If you're among the people who have subscribed up until that point (or the first 100 subscribers--another lofty goal), then you'll be entered to win some signed copies of my books and weird merch I've made for them over the years. Do a friend a solid and tell them to sign up winks garishly
