My favorite Loyola football player of all time

My favorite Loyola football player of all time . . . he wrote a book!

I have been supporting Loyola football since 1965 and have seen and written about many incredibly talented Cub gridiron legends over the years. This is the first time in my email newsletters, I have written in the first person because I hope you buy my favorite player’s book.

My favorite Loyola player of all time—not surprisingly—is my son Ryan, Class of '07. He started as undersized offensive guard on his freshman team in 2003. He was a dedicated backup thereafter. He earned a CIF championship ring after the Cubs won the 2005 CIF Southern Section Division I championship. He helped the cause on special teams.

Ryan's participation in football was not his only extracurricular pursuit. He was also a member of Loyola's nationally acclaimed championship swimming program, a two-year section editor of the Loyalist, and a student council member. He graduated with a 4.4 grade point average and highest honors, having taken full advantage of his Jesuit education. Ryan matriculated to Northwestern University where he a was a student at the Medill School of Journalism. In 2011 he graduated from Northwestern summa cum laude and embarked on his career in investigative journalism. He is presently the deputy editor of Pacific Standard (psmag.com).

Penguin Random House purchased the rights to his first book. After a great deal of investigation and years of research, including travel throughout Italy and France, The Truffle Underground will finally be published on June 4.

I hope you will consider pre-ordering it now here: https://www.amazon.com/Truffle-Underground-Mystery-Manipulation-Expensive/dp/0451495691/.

BuzzFeed named the book one of the most anticipated titles of 2019. Publishers Weekly has called it a "fascinating," "deeply researched and eye-opening account" that "will captivate readers." Booklist gave it a starred review. Kirkus Reviews describes it as "an entertaining, revealing," and "deftly crafted tale of obsessions and true crime in the culinary world." Pulitzer Prize-winning investigative reporter Steve Fainaru say it's "a forest-to-table page-turner" delivered in "elegant, mesmerizing prose." Foreign rights have already sold to publishers in the United Kingdom, Japan, and Spain.

Quite the journey for my favorite Loyola football player. See the links below, for more information. Thanks for letting me tell the story.
