Loyola golf keeps undefeated record intact, will play at legendary courses next week
Loyola's five-time defending CIF Southern Section Division I champion golf team chalked up another impressive match victory to keep its undefeated record intact, downing traditionally strong L.B. Wilson 5 1/2 - 2 1/2 at Recreation Park Golf Course in Long Beach on Tuesday. The Cubs' improved their season record to 11-0.
Loyola has a dream slate lined up during the week after Easter - it could well be called the John Steinbeck tour - as the Cubs travel up Highway 101 to the Monterey Peninsula.
On Monday the Cubs will take to the links against palma of Salinas at Laguna Seca Golf Ranch in Monterey. On Tuesday Loyola plays Carmel at Quail Lodge & Golf Club in Carmel-By-The-Sea. The Cubs will battle Stevenson School at famed Spyglass Hill Golf Course in Pebble Beach on Wednesday, and will end their journey north on Thursday against Monterey at Del Monte Golf Course in Pebble Beach. That is a quartet of golf courses that many golfers would give anything at which to play.
Cub swimmers leave St. Francis in their wake
Loyola's defending CIF Southern Section Division I champion swim and dive squad continued its domination of its Mission League foes on Tuesday with a 138-43 win over St. Francis. The Cubs are 6-0.
Loyola volleyball continues dominant rampage through league
On Tuesday, Loyola's defending CIF Southern Section Division I champion volleyball team continued its undefeated run through the Mission League with a 25-13, 25-16, 25-23 sweep of Notre Dame. The number two-ranked Cubs are 18-1 overall and 8-0 in conference competition.
Loyola LAX falls to archrival
Loyola's defending U.S. Lacrosse Southern Section champion lacrosse club trounced Notre Dame 17-2 on Monday, but was held in check by archrival and number three-ranked Palos Verdes on Tuesday falling 6-2 to the Sea Kings. The Cubs were soundly defeated by Western U. S. powerhouse St. Ignatius, 15-7, in San Francisco on Saturday. Loyola will have to ratchet up its play in the home stretch if it hopes to to be in the hunt to defend its title.
