Loyola athletics - Volleyball continues dominating play, baseball downs Portland Jesuit

Cub volleyball continues dominating play against Notre Dame
Loyola's defending CIF Southern Section Division I volleyball squad continued its dominating run through the Mission League with a three set sweep (25-16, 25-20, 25-23) of Notre Dame on Tuesday evening at Leavey. Ranked second in the latest Div. I coaches' poll, the Cubs are 16-1 overall and 6-0 in conference competition.

Cub baseball splits against brother Jesuit schools
On Monday in the second game of the Anaheim Lions Tournament, Loyola's varsity baseball team fell to Regis Jesuit of Aurora, Colorado, 7-6, at Mark Robinson Diamond.  Amherst-bound senior infielder STEPHEN BURKE was 3 for 4 at the plate.

On Tuesday the Cubs bounced back in a 9-7 victory over Jesuit of Portland, Oregon at home in a Lions Tournament contest. Burke and senior outfielder JUSTIN MALLOY each had two hits.  Freshman ELI PATON hit a two-run home run for the Cubs.  Senior first baseman JOE FORTIN, a Rhode Island commit, hit one out of the park as well.  Senior outfielder BEAMIN CARTER had two RBIs.  Columbia-bound senior pitcher TIM POST struck out seven Jesuit batters in just four innings of work.

Today, Loyola hosts Galena of Nevada at 3:30 p.m. at Robinson Diamond.
