Loyola athletics - Soccer advances, LAX posts lopsided win, baseball moves to 3-0, V-ball tunes up for Best of the West

Loyola soccer advances to semifinals of CIF State SoCal Regionals, will play Cathedral at 4:00 Thursday
Loyola's AIDAN CUEVAS scored the only goals in the Cubs' 2-0 road win Tuesday night over Los Angeles City Section Division I champion El Camino Real in Woodland Hills in the first match of the CIF State Southern California Regional soccer playoffs. Loyola (23-3-6) will travel to Cathedral (19-4-3) on Thursday afternoon for a 4:00 p.m. semifinal match with the Phantoms, who defeated Carlsbad La Costa Canyon, 3-1, yesterday. The two teams met on January 5, in a match that ended in a 0-0 tie. A win would put the Cubs in the regional championship match.

Cub baseball defeats Crescenta Valley to improve to 3-0
Loyola's varsity baseball squad defeated Crescenta Valley, 5-4, on Tuesday at Mark P. Robinson Diamond in in a Bonita Tournament game. Sophomore KEVIN PARADA went two for three at the plate, including a triple, and had one RBI. Sophomore ELI PATON was one for three, including a double, and collected two RBIs. Loyola plays at Pasadena Maranatha this afternoon at 3:00 p.m. in a Bonita Tournament contest. Tuesday's victory improved the Cubs' record to 3-0.

Top ranked Loyola lacrosse pummels number nine-ranked Thousand Oaks, 17-3
The U. S. Lacrosse Los Angeles region's number one-ranked Cubs traveled to Thousand Oaks last night for a match against the number nine-ranked Lancers, and came away with an impressive offensive and defensive tour de force, pummeling the home team, 17-3.

On Saturday at 7:00 p.m., two-time defending Southern section Regional chaLoyola hosts archrival and number two-ranked Palos Verdes under the lights on Bob Smith Field in what promises to be a monster match. The first face off is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.

Cub volleyball tunes up for nation's top prep volleyball tournament
Loyola's varsity volleyball squad defeated number 10-ranked Westlake at Leavey Gymnasium on Tuesday night, 25-17, 25-19, 25-17. The undefeated defending National Champion Cubs will host perennial CIF Central Section power Clovis Buchanan tonight. The first serve is scheduled will be at 7:00 p.m. On Friday

Loyola travels to Poway on Friday to compete in the two-day Best of the West Boys Volleyball Invitational, widely considered to be the top prep volleyball tournament in the nation. The best teams in the state are participating, including the Cubs,Corona del Mar and Newport Harbor. Teams from San Diego, Northern California and Hawaii are also in the field of 31 elite programs participating.  Pool play commences Friday afternoon at 3:00 p.m.at Alliant International University. First and second place teams from pool play will compete for the Gold Division title at the Epic Volleyball Club beginning at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday. The prestigious tournament is in its 12th year.
