LOYOLA SOCCER FINISHES AS CIF SOUTHERN SECTION OPEN DIVISION AND CIF STATE SOUTHERN REGIONAL DIVISION I RUNNER-UP
Head coach CHRIS WALTER guided Loyola’s varsity soccer club to to a runner-up finish in the elite CIF Southern Section Open Division playoffs. The Cubs fell to JSerra, 2-0, in the championship match. Loyola then advanced to the CIF State Southern Regional finals where it lost again, 4-0, to JSerra which finished the season as the number-one ranked soccer squad in the nation according to MaxPreps.
The Cubs ended their outstanding campaign with a 22-2-4 overall record and a dominant undefeated conference run in the Mission League to capture yet another conference title.
HUGE VOLLEYBALL MATCH ON TAP THIS FRIDAY AGAINST ARCH RIVAL MIRA COSTA
There might not be a more fierce rivalry in California prep sports than that between perennial national volleyball powerhouses Loyola and Manhattan Beach Mira Costa.
Head coach MICHAEL BOEHLE'S ‘84 defending National Champion Cubs will host Costa on Friday at Leavey Gymnasium at 7:00 p.m. The much anticipated match will be a sellout, so buy your tickets now at GoFan.co, assuming any tickets are still available.
On March 8, Loyola won the Best of the West Tournament in Poway. The two-day 32-team tournament is considered the best prep volleyball showcase in the country.
After going undefeated in pool play, the Cubs won the 16-team Gold Division title after downing Mira Costa (15-25, 25-20,15-10) in the championship match after dispatching Sandra Day O’Connor of Arizona, Beckman of Irvine and Huntington Beach in the first three rounds.
Junior outside hitter BLAKE FAHLBUSCH was named the tournament MVP, junior libero MATT KELLY and senior outside hitter SIMON CAPPSS made the All-Tournament team.
Loyola is 12-2 on the season and ranked third in the nation going into Friday’s mammoth match against the Mustangs.
CUB LACROSSE RANKED 19th IN THE USA, POSTS IMPRESSIVE VICTORY AGAINST STATE’S TOP-RANKED SQUAD
On March 13, Loyola head coach JIMMY BORELL’s varsity lacrosse team hosted California’s top ranked team, fellow Jesuit prep school St. Ignatius of San Francisco, and the Cubs came away with an impressive 14-11 victory over the visitors from the Bay Area.
Sophomore standout ANDREW GOLDMAN won 11 of 12 faceoffs against the Wildcats. For his impressive effort GOLDMAN was tabbed by USA Lacrosse as the national Player of the Week.
Loyola (10-3) is currently ranked 19th in the nation by MaxPreps.
CUB GOLF TEAM IS DOMINANT
Loyola’s varsity golf team won the Mission League’s first Conference Tournament with an overall -7 score and a dominating 28-stroke victory over the field.
Senior TUCKER SWEENEY was the Cub leader with a three-under par score on the Brookside course in Pasadena.
Head coach ROB GORR’s links squad is undefeated (8-0). Loyola has won 14 consecutive Mission League's titles.
LOYOLA SWIM MAKES NATIONAL STATEMENT IN ELITE INVITATIONAL
Loyola’s varsity swimming squad, a perennial national powerhouse program under the tutelage of Co-Head Coaches KEVIN MANN and CHRIS GIBSON, served notice that the 2025 squad will follow in the footsteps of its ultra talented predecessors on March 8 by winning the prestigious Justin Carr Relays at Harvard-Westlake.
LOYOLA BASEBALL OFF TO GOOD START
Loyola head baseball coach KEITH RAMSEY has the Cubs off to a good start. Loyola is 7-2 overall and 3-1 in the highly competitive Mission League, The Cubs’ best victory was a 2-1 win in a pitchers’ duel against Sierra Canyon.

SEAN MORRIS II NAMED RB MVP AT RIVALS CAMP
Rising senior, All-State/All-CIF Loyola running back SEAN MORRIS II (5-10, 195) was named the MVP of the running back competitors at the recent, highly competitive Rivals Los Angeles invitational, which included top prep players from as far away as Florida and Louisiana. MORRIS just added Utah to his impressive scholarship offers list. He recently squatted 405 pounds 12 times which would be an outstanding effort by a collegiate running back.
This fall MORRIS can eclipse the Cub all-time rushing record of over 4,000 yards set by single wing tailback MIKE BERGDAHL ‘65 in 1963 and 1964.
ALL-CIF LINEMAN NATHAN TURK COMMITS TO HARVARD
Rising senior All-CIF offensive tackle NATHAN TURK (6-4, 279), who helped pave the way to the Cubs’ run to the CIF Division 3 playoff semifinals last fall, recently announced his commitment to play football for Harvard University. He was heavily recruited by every school in the Ivy League.
MARKUS KIER, LOYOLA’s TOP RETURNING RECEIVER, HAS IMPRESSIVE OFFER LIST
The Cubs’ top returning wide receiver, rising senior MARKUS KIER (6-3, 185) who has an expanding list of Football Bowl Subdivision scholarship offers from such schools as California, Kansas and Illinois, has demonstrated academic prowess that equals his athletic skills. He has Ivy League offers from Harvard, Yale, Penn and Cornell.
CUB DEFENSIVE END MAX MEIER’S STOCK CONTINUES TO RISE
Rising Loyola senior defensive end MAX MEIER’s recruiting stock is continuing to rise. Like KIER, MEIER’s academic talent has drawn offers from the from the likes of Princeton, Harvard Stanford, Northwestern and Penn.
The 6-6, 251 lb. athlete also has offers from, among others, USC, UCLA, Colorado, Washington, California, Arizona State and Wisconsin.
CUB CORNER BRANDON LOCKHART MAKES MAX PREPS TOP 100 LIST
Three-time All-American Loyola corner BRANDON LOCKHART was one of 11 players from the state of California who made MaxPreps’ recently published list of the 100 top prep football players in the nation. A USC commit, LOCKHART has a long, impressive list of scholarship offers from the likes of Notre Dame and Georgia.
