Loyola Athletics - Led by an incredible coach, Loyola soccer to play for title
CUBS PLAY FOR CIF OPEN DIVISION SOCCER CHAMPIONSHIP FRIDAY
In his tewnty-sixth season as the head coach of Loyola’s nationally renowned varsity soccer program, CHRIS WALTER ‘93 has his undefeated Cubs (20-0-4) in position to capture the 2025 CIF Southern Section Open Division championship. The title match will be played against JSerra (16-0-1), the nation’s number one ranked squad, at 5:00 p.m. this Friday at El Modena High School in Orange.
Loyola, ranked fourth in California and 20th in the nation, defeated Mater Dei and Hart in the eight-team Open Division playoffs to make it to the title match this Friday.
The Mission League champion Cubs outscored their conference opponents 41-5 while not allowing an opponent goal six times.
The level of excellence at which Loyola competes has been a constant for more than a quarter of a century under WALTER’s unparalleled tutelage. His overall record through last Saturday’s semifinal victory against Hart stands at 531-113-102 (79%).
WALTER’s clubs have won two state titles, three Southern California Regional championships, four CIF Southern Section crowns, four CIF Southern Section runner-up plaques, 19 Mission League trophies and completed ten campaigns with undefeated records in conference competition.
An uncompromising task master who demands discipline, sets the highest of standards teaches excellent fundamentals and requires a tireless work ethic from his players, WALTER is one of the nation’s best prep soccer coaches. He has indelibly cemented his well deserved place among the all-time greats in Cub coaching annals.
Loyola has already made history in this remarkable season, and WALTER’s crew has a chance to add to its impressive trophy case on Friday night.
