Loyola lacrosse comes close at Torrey Pines
Having vanquished perennial Orange County lacrosse power, Santa Ana Foothill, for the first time ever on March 4, the Cubs varsity lacrosse squad had another major hurdle they hoped to overcome on Saturday in San Diego. After surging back from a 7-2 deficit to tie the score, 7-7, in the fourth quarter against Torrey Pines, the number 17th-ranked team in the nation and top-ranked squad in California, Loyola (6-1) could not seal the deal, falling 9-7 to the Falcons. It was the Cubs' first setback of the campaign, but it sent a signal to the US Lacrosse world that Loyola can compete at a nationally elite level. Loyola 's next game is at rival Harvard-Westlake in Studio City on March 25 at 1:00 p.m.

Woes continue for Cub baseball
The woes continue for Cub baseball as Loyola was swept in a three game series with Notre Dame last week to fall to 6-2 overall. Loyola travels to Alemany today, hosts the Warriors on Tuesday and plays at Alemany again on Friday. Statistics through seven games before Friday's 6-1 loss to the Knights were not encouraging. The Cubs' team batting average was .224 and the pitching staff's combined ERA was 3.95. Already in a hole with an 0-3 loop record, Loyola needs to find its compass in a hurry in all phases if it hopes to be in the playoff hunt.
