Loyola athletics - Lacrosse dominates in first three playoff outings - Cub volleyball snags second seed in CIF Division I playoffs

Cub LAX routs three playoff foes by combined score of 42-8, will play for regional title Wednesday night against long time nemesis Palos Verdes at Glendale High
Loyola's two-time defending Southern Section champion varsity lacrosse club drubbed Santa Monica, 16-2, in the first round of the U.S. Lacrosse Greater Los Angeles regional playoffs last Tuesday, routed a strong Westlake team, 18-3, in the quarterfinals on Thursday and made quick work of Agoura, 8-3, in a semifinal match on Saturday in Culver City.

The number-one seeded Cubs (19-4) will take on long time arch rival Palos Verdes (19-3) on Wednesday at 7:00 p.m. at Glendale High School for the regional championship. The same schools battled in last year's regional final, won handily by Loyola. The Sea Kings, who downed Harvard-Westlake, 8-4, in the other semifinal, are expected to provide a stiffer test on Wednesday in this season's championship contest.

The Cubs defeated Palos Verdes in the annual non-league match between the Southland powerhouses, 8-7 in an overtime thriller, at Smith Field on March 10. The winner of Wednesday's regional title match will take on the victor of the Orange County final between San Juan Capistrano St. Margaret's (17-2) and Santa Ana Foothill (19-5) on May 12 at Newport Harbor High at 1:15 p.m. Two of Loyola's four losses were at the hands of the Orange County finalists in non-league tilts. To have a chance at redemption, the Cubs will have to take down a hungry Sea Kings contingent on Wednesday night.Loyola is hoping for a large turnout of supporters.
