Loyola defeats number three seed in CIF second round playoff soccer match
On a cool, windy afternoon Wednesday, Loyola's varsity soccer squad played ferocious defense in shutting out number three seed Santa Barbara, 1-0, on the pitch at Smith Field in a second round match of the CIF Southern Section Division I playoffs. It was the second consecutive Cub victory over the always skilled Dons, the last coming in the 2016 CIF Division I title match.
The loss was only the second of the season for Santa Barbara which came into the match with an impressive 20-1-5 record. LUCIANO GAZCON scored Loyola's lone goal. The Cubs will travel to Palos Verdes Saturday for a 3:00 p.m. quarterfinal match against the Sea Kings, who defeated Downey, 2-0, on Wednesday afternoon.
