Loyola athletics - Cub golf runs away from field in league tourney, baseball romps, LAX wins first round playoff game

Bombs away in Cub baseball victory over St. Francis
​Loyola infielder JOE FORTIN, the Cubs' leading power hitter (second best slugging percentage in the Mission League), jacked two home runs and had five runs batted in on three hits in Tuesday's 11-5 Mission League victory over St. Francis at Robinson Diamond. 

Trailing 4-3, Loyola exploded for six runs in the bottom of the fifth inning and tacked on two more runs in the bottom of the sixth.  On his birthday, senior outfielder JUSTIN MORRIS went 2-for-3 at the plate including a triple and also got on base after being hit by a pitch.   The Cubs play St. Francis at the Glendale Sports Complex today at 3:30 p.m. in the second contest of this week's three-game series against the Golden Knights.

Loyola golf wins final Mission League Tournament
​In the third and final Mission League Tournament of the 2017 campaign, Loyola romped to a 16 point victory.   Added to the six points awarded for a undefeated play in league matches, the five time defending CIF Southern Section Central Divison champion Cubs totaled 22 points in the final league tally, to run away with the loop crown.

Cub lacrosse routs Sierra Canyon in first round US Lacrosse playoff game
​Loyola's Mission League champion lacrosse team made short work of Sierra Canyon in the first round of the US Lacrosse Southern Section North Division playoffs on Tuesday, cruising to a 16-3 victory in a contest played at Smith Field.  The Cubs (16-4) will host Thousand Oaks (12-6), the Marmonte League champion, at Smith Field at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday.  If Loyola gets by the Lancers, they will play in the semifinals on Saturday at Culver City High School at 5:00 p.m.
