Cub 800 meter runner blazes at State Meet, records third fastest time in Loyola annals
Junior MILAN RATKOVICH was one of only two junior runners in California to finish in the top ten in the 800 meter event at the CIF State Track & Field Championship Meet, held on Saturday at Clovis Buchanan High School. After qualifying in Friday's prelims, Ratkovich shaved nearly two seconds off his personal record time from the previous evening's prelims, completing the two-lapper in 1:52.67. The brilliant effort places the junior runner in third place on Loyola's all-time 800 meter list behind BRIAN DUFF and ELIAS GEDYON. Saturday's meet was California's 100th. It would not surprise if Ratkovich breaks the Cub record at meet 101 next June. He consistently improved his times week after week during the course of the spring track season.

Junior WILL O'BRIEN qualified for the finals in the pole vault on Friday with a personal record-tying vault of 15' 3", but unfortunately he was  unable to reprise his effort on Saturday. The talented athlete will assault the school record next season.

Loyola's 4 X 400 Relay team ran a season best 3:18.21 in the prelims, but despite the impressive clocking, the Cubs tenth place finish prevented the squad from qualifying for the championship finals.

Two former Cub baseball players earn All-Ivy League accolades, one named Ivy League Player-of-the-Year
Former Cub baseball player DUSTIN SHIRLEY '14 was honored as the Ivy League Player-of-the-Year. Shirley competed in the outfield for Dartmouth. The All-Ivy League first teamer batted .314 on the season for the Big Green, including a conference-leading 14 doubles. Shirley's 32 runs batted in and .497 slugging percentage were in the top four in the league in both categories. The senior Player-of-the-Year stole 79 bases and hit five home runs.

University of Pennsylvania junior third baseman MATT McGEAH '15 earned first team All-Ivy League accolades for the Quakers. McGeagh ranked first in the league in RBIs with 43, second in home runs (7) and slugging percentage (.508), and third in doubles (7).

Two former Loyola golf stars qualify for U.S. Senior Open
Two former Cub standouts on the links, DENNIS MARTIN '83 and KEN TANIGAWA '85 qualified for the U.S. Senior Open which will be played at Broadmoor Country Club in Colorado. Competition commences on June 28.

Loyola lacrosse ranked third in West by U.S. Lacrosse magazine
Loyola's U.S. Lacrosse three-time defending Southern Section champion lacrosse squad (21-4) was ranked third in the West by Nike/U.S. Lacrosse in the season's final poll, which appeared in US Lacrosse Magazine.

The Cubs, who defeated St. Margaret's Episcopal, 10-9, in overtime in the Northern vs. Southern championship match on May 12, came in behind number one Torrey Pines (San Diego) (19-1) and second-ranked Regis Jesuit (18-2) of Aurora, Colorado. San Ramon Valley (22-2) was ranked fourth and Coronado (15-5) of San Diego was fifth. St. Margaret's was in the number eight position, and Palos Verdes (19-3), whom Loyola defeated in the Northern Regional title match, was ranked tenth.
