Loyola athletics - Big hoops playoff game tonight, Loyola baseball ranked 17th by Times
Loyola plays La Canada ((25-4) tonight in CIF Div. 1A basketball quarterfinal
The Cubs will host Rio Hondo league champion La Canada (25-4) at Leavey Gymnasium tonight in the quarterfinal round of the CIF Southern Section Division 1A basketball playoffs. The Spartans have won 15 consecutive games. Loyola, which defeated Walnut in overtime in the first round and Huntington Beach on Friday in the second round, is looking to end La Canada's victory skein and advance to the semifinals against the winner of this evening's contest between Harvard-Westlake (18-11) and Riverside King (20-7), which will be played in Riverside. If the Cubs can get by the Spartans, there could end up being a rematch with Mission League archrival Harvard-Westlake on Friday.
La Canada is a disciplined club that shoots with accuracy and defends well. Loyola is hoping for a large, vocal, "rock-the-gym" home contingent to assist its effort tonight. Tip off is at 7:00 p.m. It is recommended that you get to the gym by no later than 6:30 p.m. The gates will open at 5:30 p.m.

Loyola volleyball team listed by CIF among teams to watch
Loyola's defending CIF Southern Section Division I champion varsity volleyball squad was listed by the CIF among the teams to watch in 2017. No surprise there, as the Cubs are a perennial national prep powerhouse. Loyola has won twelve CIF Southern Section titles, and three CIF State Regional championships.
