Loyola athletics and Loyola Gridiron Vanguard february 23 dinner meeting
Loyola basketball takes down Eagles, completes league play against Crespi tonight at Leavey
A tie for second place in the brutally tough Mission League is still a possibility for Loyola's varsity basketball team, as the Cubs shot down the Eagles of Chaminade, 62-54, in West Hills before a feisty throng of Eagle partisans on Monday. Senior guard KHRISTION COURSEAULT scored 23 points for Loyola to pace the Cubs' effort. It was a taut neck and neck skirmish until the waning moments of the showdown. The victory allowed Loyola to pull into a third place tie in the league with the Eagles, as both teams are 6-5 in conference play, each with one game left.
The Cubs (15-9 overall and ranked fifth in CIF Division 1A) close out the regular season tonight at Leavey Gymnasium as they host an underrated Crespi squad that defeated them by 11 points on January 20 in Encino. A large crowd is expected for this evening's contest that has the potential to catapult Loyola into a three-way tie for second place - Harvard-Westlake,currently alone in second place with a 7-3 conference record, has to lose to league champion Alemany tonight and fall to Chaminade on Friday for that to happen. A Cub victory over the Celts also would make a favorable playoff seeding probable regardless of the squad's league finish based on its current ranking in the CIF poll which usually dictates where a team will be seeded in the single elimination championship tournament
Soccer downs Crespi in final Mission League match
Loyola's varsity soccer squad defeated Crespi, 2-0, on Tuesday after falling to Chaminade, 1-0, on the road on Monday. The Cubs' Mission League record is 6-3-3 and their ovrerall regular season ledger is 11-8-5., as they await their CIF Division I playoff assignment. Loyola finished second in the Mission League.
