Cub basketball faces tough road test tonight
Loyola held off a pesky Notre Dame squad at Leavey Gymnasium Friday night, defeating the Knights, 65-59. This evening the Cubs travel to West Hills to take on Chaminade (17-9, 6-4) in one of the Mission League's toughest venues.  The Eagles' student section is notorious for its ability to create high volume distraction.

There is currently a three way battle being waged for second place in the league, and there could be a three- way tie if Harvard-Westlake (7-3 in league) bows to Alemany (22-3, 10-0), which has clinched the conference crown, on Wednesday and is upset by Chaminade on Friday.  Meanwhile, Loyola (14-9, 5-5) has to beat Chaminade tonight and a much improved Crespi team at home on Wednesday to have a chance for a second place finish. Should the Cubs win out and Harvard-Westlake stumbles twice, the Wolverines would be the league's second place playoff representative by virtue of its two victories over Loyola.

Senior guard KHRISTION COURSEAULT leads the the Cubs in scoring with 12.8 points per game, followed by sophomore guard NEIL OWEN (7.6), senior forward KYLE REECE (7.3), senior guard RASHEED CLARKE (7.2) and senior forward KEVIN JOHNSON (6.6).  Johnson leads Loyola on the glass with 112 rebounds. Clarke is the squad's top facilitator with 32 assists.  He is followed closely by ELO OTI, who has 28.  The Cubs eked out a 76-74 overtime win over Chaminade at home on January 16, so tonight's contest promises to be a fierce fight to the final buzzer.

Loyola soccer ties league leader Notre Dame
Loyola's hotly contested soccer match against league-leading Notre Dame on the pitch at Smith Field on Friday ended in a 1-1 tie.  The draw was Notre Dame's first tie in its undefeated league campaign (9-0-1) to date.  The Cubs (11-7-5, 5-2-3) have secured second place in the Mission League.  Loyola plays at Chaminade today and closes out the regular season against Crespi at home tomorrow afternoon.  Notre Dame has clinched its first league title since 1992.
