Cub basketball defeats Notre Dame in overtime
In a packed, mad-house environment in Studio City last Wednesday Loyola's varsity basketball team lost to archrival Harvard-Westlake, 61-54, in the Cubs' first Mission League contest of the season.  On Friday in Mission Hills against the loop's prohibitive title favorite, Alemany, Loyola trailed by only five points, 38-33, at halftime.  But the Warriors set off a devastating scoring avalanche after intermission in administering one of the worst defeats suffered by the Cubs in recent memory, running away with an 87-51 victory.  Last Saturday in Redondo Beach Loyola downed Leuzinger, 75-73, in the Jordan Take Flight Challenge.  On Wednesday night in Mission League play the Cubs defeated much-improved Notre Dame, 60-51, in Sherman Oaks in an overtime thriller.

Loyola (10-5, 1-2) hosts vastly improved St. Francis (11-5, 1-2) at Leavey Gynasium on Friday at 7:00 p.m.

Loyola sophomore hoop team pounds Notre Dame; freshmen undefeated in Mission League
The Cub sophomore hoop squad pummeled Notre Dame, 74-54, on Wednesday to improve its league record to 2-1 and overall slate to 14-3.  Loyola fell to Harvard-Westlake, 60-55, last Wednesday and downed Alemany on a buzzer-beater, 53-52, last Friday.

Loyola's freshman team is undefeated in the Mission League with 63-58, 68-59 and 80-67 wins over Harvard-Westlake, Alemany and Notre Dame, respectively.  The Cubs are 12-3 overall.

Loyola soccer team finds going tough, JVs undefeated
After winning the CIF Southern Section Division I title and securing the state's number one ranking in 2016, Loyola's varsity soccer team, ranked second in the nation before the season, has found the going much tougher this season.  The Cubs' 4-3 Mission League loss to Notre Dame on Wednesday dropped their league record to 1-1-1 and lowered their overall record to 7-6-3.  Head coach Chris Walter expects the team to improve as it continues to go through growing pains. DOMINIC VALDIVIA had a hat trick in the Cubs' 3-0 shutout of Alemany on Monday.

Loyola's JV soccer club (7-0-2) is undefeated.
