Loyola is top ranked team in CIF Division 1-A
Head coach JAMAL ADAMS' Cubs (5-2) were ranked first in this week's CIF Southern Section Division 1-A coaches' poll released by the CIF on Monday.  The ranking was earned in large measure because of Loyola's 55-52 win over Lake Balboa Birmingham in the Beverly Hills Tournament on Saturday.  The Patriots are currently ranked ninth by the Los Angeles Times, but were without the services of their top scorer in the loss to the Cubs. Loyola also owns a 66-53 victory over the Times' 25th ranked team, Pasadena, in the Rose City Roundball Classic played two weeks ago.

Leading a balanced crew of point-makers for the Cubs is sophomore guard NEIL OWENS (10.1 ppg).  Senior RASHEED CLARKE is averaging 9.3 points per  contest and junior guard MICHAEL HUTTON is scoring 7.4 points per outing.

Senior 6' 7" forward KEVIN JOHNSON is Loyola's leading rebounder with 39, followed by senior BEN GRUNDY and DYLAN BOEHM-DIESKO, each with 25.

The Cubs are off until December 27 when they will take on Carmichael Jesuit in the Sand Dunes Invitational hosted by St.Ignatius of San Francisco.

Cub soccer falters in San Clemente
Loyola's varsity soccer team (3-1-2) found the going tough in the Lotto Sport Western Showcase in San Clemente last week.  The Cubs tied brother Jesuit school Brophy Prep of Phoenix, 1-1, in their first match, were shutout, 3-0, by Los Angeles Cathedral in their second contest and tied host school San Clemente, 0-0, in the third match of the prestigious tournament featuring some of the nation's top prep soccer squads.  This afternoon Loyola resumes play in the Westside Tournament against South Torrance on the Spartans' home pitch.

Loyola's Marko Vavic earns All-CIF Division I accolades
Senior water polo standout MARKO VACIC, who helped lead Loyola to the CIF Southern Section Division I playoff semifinals, was named to the All-CIF D-I first team.
