Hundreds of Loyola graduates have played and currently are competing in collegiate football. Former Cub gridders have started at every level of the collegiate game, NCAA Division I-A (now Football Bowl Subdivision), Division I-AA, Division II, Division III and NAIA.

ANTOINE HARRIS ‘97 (USC)
Two-way star (TE/DE) on Loyola’s 1995-1996 CIF Div. I finalist teams, CIF Div. I Defensive Player-of-the-Year, All-American, All-State, in his senior year he led the Cubs in receiving yards, TD receptions and was the squad’s third leading tackler as a defensive end, was the Del Rey League’s Most Valuable Player and Los Angeles Times Central City Lineman of the Year, won the Times’ Glenn Davis Award as the top football player in Southern California, only four-year starter at tight end in USC history, All Pac-10.

GEORGE KUNZ ‘65 (Notre Dame)
Started on Loyola’s CIF AAAA 1963 title team, an All-CIF tackle on the CIF AAAA runner-up squad in 1964, a consensus All-American at Notre Dame under legendary head coach Ara Parseghian, second player taken in 1969 NFL Draft, eight-time Pro Bowl Player for the Baltimore Colts and Atlantic Falcons, tops the list of all-time great Loyola linemen.

All-League two-way star on both lines for the Cubs, played every position on the offensive line at Washington, All-Pac 12, twice named the Huskies’ Most Valuable Lineman, now in his second year with the Los Angeles Rams, was initially drafted by the San Francisco 49ers.

A bruising lineman for the Cubs, George was a starting offensive lineman for famed head coach Howard Jones at USC where he had a sterling career culminated by the Trojans’ 7-3 upset of top-ranked Duke In the Rose Bowl

SCOTT TERCERO ‘00 (California)
An All-CIF mauler on the OL for Loyola, started for the Cal Bears all four seasons during his tenure in Berkeley and earned all-conference honors, was Cal’s Most Valuable Lineman in 2001, was third team Freshman All-American, started at tackle for the St. Louis Rams in four contests before a career ending injury.

An All-CIF/All-American/ All-State tackle for a highly ranked Cub squad in 1977, started at offensive tackle for USC, played briefly in the NFL, now coaches Loyola’s offensive linemen.

Two-time All Serra League two-way tackle and was a force on the 2003 CIF Div. I Championship team as a junior, was recruited as a defensive tackle by Northwestern, but switched to offensive guard where he earned All-Big 10 All-Academic honors.

An athletic All-Catholic League guard for the Cubs, started at guard under legendary head coach John McKay for the Pac-8 champion USC Trojans in 1966.

An All-CIF Pac-5 offensive tackle for the Cubs in 2013, was team MVP, received more than 30 scholarship offers before inking with USC, was a Pac-12 honorable mention guard in 2017 while starting all 14 games, was USC’s Offensive Lineman of the Year, was on the Los Angeles Chargers’ practice squad in 2019.

Was an All-CIF Pac-5 Division I tackle for the Cubs in 2009, started at guard and tackle at Washington, and was the starting center for the Huskies as a senior team captain.

Started at offensive tackle on Loyola’s 2003 CIF Division I Championship team as a junior, was All-CIF Division I as a senior in ‘04, multi-year starter at Colorado State, earned All-Mountain West Conference honors and made the Rimington Award watch list.

The Cub signal caller matriculated to Cal where he was the Bears’ starting signal caller under renowned head coach Pappy Waldorf in 1955.

DANNY FARMER ‘95 (UCLA)
Cubs’ leading receiver in ‘94, one of the school’s all-time most exceptional athletes, was CIF Div. I Volleyball Player-of-the-Year in 1995, also was a starter on the varsity basketball team, played both football and volleyball (two National Championships) at UCLA, is UCLA’s all-time receiving yards leader, All-Pac-10 first team, inducted into the UCLA Athletics Hall of Fame, played six years in the NFL for the Cincinnati Bengals, Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Miami Dolphins.

An All-CIF defensive back on the 1983 league title team, also was a standout wide receiver for the Cubs, was a three year letterman at wide receiver for the Cal Bears, led Cal in receiving in both 1985 and 1986.

Was a fast, athletic All-CIF Large Schools running back at Loyola, started in the backfield at USC, where he earned All-Pacific Coast accolades, two of his brothers, GEORGE and JIM also started for the Trojans and were All-CIF players for the Cubs.

Two-time league offensive MVP for the Cubs In 2010, team Most Valuable Player in 2010, amassed over 2,500 rushing yards at Loyola, started in the backfield for the Arizona Wildcats, one of Loyola’s great all-time running backs.

Earned All-CIF PAC-5 honors and was Loyola’s MVP In 2010, gained over 1,600 yards for the Cubs as a senior, started at running back at Wyoming, All Mountain West, gained 1,325 yards as a senior and averaged 6.5 yards per carry, one of the top backs in Big Blue annals.

All-CIF kicker for Loyola as a senior and was the kicker for the 2003 CIF Division I Champion Cubs as a junior, won the Lou Groza Award as the nation’s top collegiate kicker at Arizona State in 2007, was on the Cincinnati Bengals’ practice squad for two years.

Three-year starting kicker and punter for Loyola, All-Serra first team as a senior, averaged 43.6 yards per punt in his final campaign for the Cubs, served as the starting kicker for Stanford for two seasons, owns the Cardinal records for most made field goals (22) and consecutive made extra point kicks, as a junior was All-Pac-12 second team and All-Academic second team, All-Pac-12 honorable mention and All-Academic honorable mention as a senior.

All-CIF Division I and first team USA Today All-American punter for the Cubs in 1990 and 1991, punted for CIF Division I championship Loyola team in 1990, four year letterman at USC, All-Pac-10 punter for the Trojans in 1995, brother Paul was also All-CIF and the starting punter at Stanford.

STEFAN FLINTOFT ‘14 (UCLA)
Outstanding punter for the Cubs, longest punt was 75 yards, averaged 42 yards in Cub career, punted for the UCLA Bruins, averaged 45.8 yards per punt in his senior season in Westwood, earned All-Pac-12 honorable mention and All-Pac-12 All-Academic honorable mention.

JIM CALLANAN ‘43 (USC)
An All-CIF back at Loyola in 1942, he played both ways at end during the days of two-platoon football at USC, was first team All-Coast in 1944, one of the four legendary Callanan brothers, three of whom earned All-CIF accolades, ED ‘45 may have been the best but opted to become a Jesuit rather than continuing his career in his brothers footsteps at USC, HOWARD ‘39 (All-CIF back), GEORGE ‘42 (All-CIF back), and JIM ‘43 (All-CIF back). Howard lost his life in World War II in service of his country. All three were starters at USC in 1943.

MELVIN SANDERS ‘76 (Washington State)
Was an All-Del Rey League star at defensive end for the Cubs’ 1975 CIF AAAA and National championship team, he accepted a scholarship to Washington State where he earned freshman All-American honors, finished his career with the Cougars as the the program’s then sixth all-time leading tackler.

ERIC SCANLAN ‘94 (Duke)
A tougher than nails All-CIF Division I and All-State standout defensive tackle on Loyola’s defensive line in 1992 and 1993. The 1992 squad was CIF Division I Finalist. One of the top Cub D-linemen of all-time, four-year starter at nose guard at Duke, All-ACC.

GEORGE HYPOLITE ‘05 (Colorado)
Two-year starter for Cubs as a fullback and defensive end, started on 2003 CIF Division I Championship team, All-Serra League defensive end on ‘04 league title squad, three-year starter on the defensive line for the University of Colorado, All-Big 12 Conference was a member of the practice squads of the NFL Carolina Panthers and Jacksonville Jaguars, became an attorney.

JORDAN HANSON ‘10 (Nevada)
All-league defensive lineman on Loyola’s 2009 squad, won Captain’s Award and top weightlifter award, at Nevada he was a starter on the defensive line and a team captain, started 37 consecutive games for the Wolfpack.

Cub Defensive MVP in 2014, All-Mission League defensive end, scholarship player at USC where he started on the defensive line, was a team captain as a senior and earned All-Pac-12 honors three times.

Played linebacker on 2015 team which finished the campaign ranked 17th in the state, starting linebacker at Coastal Carolina, third team All-Sun Belt in 2019, Phil Steele preseason 2020 All-Sun Belt.

ANTHONY BARR ‘10 (UCLA)
Standout running back at Loyola, was Serra League Most Valuable Offensive Player as a junior when he gained 1,890 yards and scored 20 TDs, missed most of his senior campaign due to injury, at UCLA was switched to linebacker at which position he earned consensus first team All-American and All-PAC-12 accolades in both his junior and senior seasons, won the Lott IMPACT Award, bestowed on the nation’s top defensive player, as a senior, was the ninth player taken in the 2014 NFL draft. Starts at inside linebacker for the Minnesota Vikings, four time selection to the Pro Bowl.

As a junior, started at corner for 2005 CIF Division I championship team, earned All-CIF honors as a senior, started at safety for the Cal Bears, earned All-Pac-10 accolades in 2010, drafted by the Bears in the third round of the NFL draft, started multiple seasons at safety in the NFL for the Chicago Bears and Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Three year starter at defensive back for the Cubs, also played wide receiver and running back, returned kicks and punts, tremendous athlete earned All-State special mention as a senior, Loyola MVP in 2015, started in the secondary at Washington, earned All-Pac-12 honorable mention in 2017, was second-team All-PAC-12 in 2018 and 2019, in his rookie season with the NFL’s New England Patriots.

Three year starter at Loyola where he excelled both as a running back and DB, All-Serra League in 2012, was Cubs’ Most Valuable Player as a senior, accepted scholarship to Cal where he competed at corner, nickel and safety as a four-year starter for the Bears, All-Pac-12 Academic in 2014 and 2015.

LEE HIGHTOWER ‘11 (Boise State/ Houston)
A tall, athletic All-Serra League second team corner on the 2010 Loyola squad, came in first in the CIF long jump competition and finished third in the state, accepted a scholarship offer from Boise State, transferred to Houston where he started in the secondary, was on the practice squad of the Indianapolis Colts.

MATT WARE ‘01 (UCLA)
One of the greatest athletes of all-time at Loyola, as a senior on the 2000 CIF Division I finalist team, which ended the campaign ranked 15th in the nation, he rushed for 1,030 yards (7.5 yards per carry) and passed for 1,039 yards in his second year as the Cubs’ starting QB, also played safety, was the 2000 CIF Division I Player of the Year, USA Today first team All-American, Del Rey League Player of the Year, regarded as the top DB recruit in the nation, committed to UCLA where he started at corner as a true freshman, earned Freshman All-American honors and Pac-10 Freshman of the Year accolades, played for the Seattle Mariners minor league baseball team in Peoria, Arizona in 2002, drafted by the Philadelphia Eagles in 2004, played in the NFL for seven seasons for the Eagles and Arizona Cardinals.

KADAR HAMILTON ‘94 (Stanford)
Was Loyola’s Most Valuable Player in 1993 as a standout running back and corner, rushed for 1,205 yards (7.8 yards per carry, 15 TDs) as a senior, Del Rey League Co-Offensive MVP, accepted a scholarship to Stanford where he started in the secondary as a true freshman under the incomparable Bill Walsh, graduated from The Farm with a degree in economics, played professionally in Europe.

KODI WHITFIELD ‘12 (Stanford)
A two-way star for the Cubs for three seasons as a starter at both wide receiver and safety, in his senior season, he earned All-CIF honors as a safety, accepted scholarship offer from Stanford where he initially played in the secondary, but ended his Cardinal career as a starting safety, All-Pac-12 All-Academic honorable mention as a sophomore.

JIMMY KLEIN ‘89 (Stanford)
Two-time All-State/All-CIF safety at Loyola in 1987-88, one of of the best athletes in Cub Football annals, he also was an All-CIF volleyball standout, started at safety as a true freshman at Stanford where he also started on the Cardinal volleyball team. A serious injury ended his Stanford career after his sophomore football campaign.

Outstanding punter for the Cubs, longest punt was 75 yards, averaged 42 yards in Cub career, punted for the UCLA Bruins, averaged 45.8 yards per punt in his senior season in Westwood, earned All-Pac-12 honorable mention and All-Pac-12 All-Academic honorable mention.

JIM CALLANAN ‘43 (USC)
An All-CIF back at Loyola in 1942, he played both ways at end during the days of two-platoon football at USC, was first team All-Coast in 1944, one of the four legendary Callanan brothers, three of whom earned All-CIF accolades, ED ‘45 may have been the best but opted to become a Jesuit rather than continuing his career in his brothers footsteps at USC, HOWARD ‘39 (All-CIF back), GEORGE ‘42 (All-CIF back), and JIM ‘43 (All-CIF back). Howard lost his life in World War II in service of his country. All three were starters at USC in 1943.

MELVIN SANDERS ‘76 (Washington State)
Was an All-Del Rey League star at defensive end for the Cubs’ 1975 CIF AAAA and National championship team, he accepted a scholarship to Washington State where he earned freshman All-American honors, finished his career with the Cougars as the the program’s then sixth all-time leading tackler.

ERIC SCANLAN ‘94 (Duke)
A tougher than nails All-CIF Division I and All-State standout defensive tackle on Loyola’s defensive line in 1992 and 1993. The 1992 squad was CIF Division I Finalist. One of the top Cub D-linemen of all-time, four-year starter at nose guard at Duke, All-ACC.

GEORGE HYPOLITE ‘05 (Colorado)
Two-year starter for Cubs as a fullback and defensive end, started on 2003 CIF Division I Championship team, All-Serra League defensive end on ‘04 league title squad, three-year starter on the defensive line for the University of Colorado, All-Big 12 Conference was a member of the practice squads of the NFL Carolina Panthers and Jacksonville Jaguars, became an attorney.

JORDAN HANSON ‘10 (Nevada)
All-league defensive lineman on Loyola’s 2009 squad, won Captain’s Award and top weightlifter award, at Nevada he was a starter on the defensive line and a team captain, started 37 consecutive games for the Wolfpack.

CHRISTIAN RECTOR ‘15 (USC )
Cub Defensive MVP in 2014, All-Mission League defensive end, scholarship player at USC where he started on the defensive line, was a team captain as a senior and earned All-Pac-12 honors three times.

TEDDY GALLAGHER ‘16 (Coastal Carolina)
Played linebacker on 2015 team which finished the campaign ranked 17th in the state, starting linebacker at Coastal Carolina, third team All-Sun Belt in 2019, Phil Steele preseason 2020 All-Sun Belt.

ANTHONY BARR ‘10 (UCLA)
Standout running back at Loyola, was Serra League Most Valuable Offensive Player as a junior when he gained 1,890 yards and scored 20 TDs, missed most of his senior campaign due to injury, at UCLA was switched to linebacker at which position he earned consensus first team All-American and All-PAC-12 accolades in both his junior and senior seasons, won the Lott IMPACT Award, bestowed on the nation’s top defensive player, as a senior, was the ninth player taken in the 2014 NFL draft. Starts at inside linebacker for the Minnesota Vikings, four time selection to the Pro Bowl.

CHRIS CONTE ‘07 (California)
As a junior, started at corner for 2005 CIF Division I championship team, earned All-CIF honors as a senior, started at safety for the Cal Bears, earned All-Pac-10 accolades in 2010, drafted by the Bears in the third round of the NFL draft, started multiple seasons at safety in the NFL for the Chicago Bears and Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

MYLES BRYANT ‘16 (Washington)
Three year starter at defensive back for the Cubs, also played wide receiver and running back, returned kicks and punts, tremendous athlete earned All-State special mention as a senior, Loyola MVP in 2015, started in the secondary at Washington, earned All-Pac-12 honorable mention in 2017, was second-team All-PAC-12 in 2018 and 2019, in his rookie season with the NFL’s New England Patriots.

A two-way starter for the Cubs (WR/corner), was an All-American/ All-State/ All-Mission League corner, played in the Army All-American Bowl, was a National Football Foundation Scholar Athlete, accepted scholarship to Michigan where he earned All-Big 10 accolades in 2018, taken by the Los Angeles Rams in the third round of the 2019 NFL Draft, currently on the Rams’ active roster as a corner

CAMERON WALKER ‘13 (California)
Three year starter at Loyola where he excelled both as a running back and DB, All-Serra League in 2012, was Cubs’ Most Valuable Player as a senior, accepted scholarship to Cal where he competed at corner, nickel and safety as a four-year starter for the Bears, All-Pac-12 Academic in 2014 and 2015.

LEE HIGHTOWER ‘11 (Boise State/ Houston)
A tall, athletic All-Serra League second team corner on the 2010 Loyola squad, came in first in the CIF long jump competition and finished third in the state, accepted a scholarship offer from Boise State, transferred to Houston where he started in the secondary, was on the practice squad of the Indianapolis Colts.

MATT WARE ‘01 (UCLA)
One of the greatest athletes of all-time at Loyola, as a senior on the 2000 CIF Division I finalist team, which ended the campaign ranked 15th in the nation, he rushed for 1,030 yards (7.5 yards per carry) and passed for 1,039 yards in his second year as the Cubs’ starting QB, also played safety, was the 2000 CIF Division I Player of the Year, USA Today first team All-American, Del Rey League Player of the Year, regarded as the top DB recruit in the nation, committed to UCLA where he started at corner as a true freshman, earned Freshman All-American honors and Pac-10 Freshman of the Year accolades, played for the Seattle Mariners minor league baseball team in Peoria, Arizona in 2002, drafted by the Philadelphia Eagles in 2004, played in the NFL for seven seasons for the Eagles and Arizona Cardinals.

KADAR HAMILTON ‘94 (Stanford)
Was Loyola’s Most Valuable Player in 1993 as a standout running back and corner, rushed for 1,205 yards (7.8 yards per carry, 15 TDs) as a senior, Del Rey League Co-Offensive MVP, accepted a scholarship to Stanford where he started in the secondary as a true freshman under the incomparable Bill Walsh, graduated from The Farm with a degree in economics, played professionally in Europe.

KODI WHITFIELD ‘12 (Stanford)
A two-way star for the Cubs for three seasons as a starter at both wide receiver and safety, in his senior season, he earned All-CIF honors as a safety, accepted scholarship offer from Stanford where he initially played in the secondary, but ended his Cardinal career as a starting safety, All-Pac-12 All-Academic honorable mention as a sophomore.

JIMMY KLEIN ‘89 (Stanford)
Two-time All-State/All-CIF safety at Loyola in 1987-88, one of of the best athletes in Cub Football annals, he also was an All-CIF volleyball standout, started at safety as a true freshman at Stanford where he also started on the Cardinal volleyball team. A serious injury ended his Stanford career after his sophomore football campaign.
