Cub Football - New staff members announced at Vanguard meeting

Two highly accomplished coaches join varsity coaching staff
At the Loyola Gridiron Vanguard spring dinner meeting on Wednesday night, Loyola head coach Dr. RICARDO PEDROARIAS spoke about the progress of the program as he enters his second year as the steward of Cub Football. During the course of his talk, Coach Pedroarias announced the hiring of two new varsity assistant coaches, DREW CASANI '91 and ARMIN YOUNGBLOOD.

Casani is a Loyola legend. He was the 1990 CIF Southern Section Division I Defensive Player-of-the-Year. As a ferocious middle linebacker, he played three quarters of the CIF Division I championship game at Anaheim Stadium with a fractured bone in his lower leg. His passionate, inspirational effort helped propel the Cubs to the fourth of the school's six CIF Large School titles. Coach Casani coached at Loyola in the mid-90s before serving as a scout for the San Francisco 49ers, and most recently working as a football staff member at UCLA. Casani is very excited about his new job as the mentor of Cub inside linebackers. Without a doubt, his pupils will compete with uncommon intensity and create thunder in the box.

Coach Youngblood will hold the positions of passing game coordinator and quarterbacks coach. He brings an impressive resume to his new posts. Youngblood has run a quality quarterback training camp for many years. Among his pupils was Josh Rosen, the former UCLA quarterback, who is expected to be a high first round selection in this spring's NFL draft. Youngblood coached quarterbacks, including Jerry Neuheisel, at Loyola under former Cub head mentor Mike Christensen from 2010-2012. He has served in the same capacity recently at both Servite and Orange Lutheran. There is no question that Loyola's signal callers will flourish under Youngblood's tutelage. Youngblood was a record-setting passer at Carson High School in the late 1980s.

At the dinner, former Cub star DANNY FARMER '95 gave a great talk about his multi-sport experience at Loyola and UCLA.
