Cub Football - Loyola prepares for final Mission League contest - Cubs in College and NFL update

Loyola's bye week came at good time - Cubs play Alemany in conference finale on November 3
Loyola was banged up after going through the consecutive three-game gauntlet of Bishop Amat, Serra and Chaminade as the Cubs entered their bye week on Monday. The extra week allowed some minor injuries to heal and to let some banged up bodies to get some much needed rest. Off tonight, Loyola concludes the 2017 Mission League campaign next Friday against Alemany in Mission Hills. The Warriors (2-6) travel to La Puente this evening to take on league co-leader Bishop Amat. Alemany has been hit by the injury bug, and still may be shorthanded when it hosts the Cubs on November 3.

Four of five comparative scores establish the Cubs as the favored squad in the conference finale. Loyola lost to Serra, 13-10. The Warriors were beaten by the Cavaliers, 38-20.  The Cubs defeated Notre Dame, 28-21, while Alemany fell to the Knights, 38-19. Loyola was downed by Chaminade, 37-14. The Warriors were routed by the Eagles last Friday, 45-0. In non-league contests the Cubs were shut out by Santa Margarita, 35-0, in the second week of the season, and Alemany was blasted by the Eagles 61-7. The lone comparative score which favors Alemany is the Warriors 32-14 victory over Crespi compared to Loyola's 17-0 blanking of the Celts last Friday. In the five comparative contests, the Cubs scored 69 points and relinquished 106 (14-21 average score), while Alemany scored 78 points and allowed 196 (16-39 average score). While comparative scores do not always predict outcomes, Loyola has the advantage. The Warriors, though, will give the Cubs all they can handle as Alemany will try to play the spoiler's role in quashing Loyola's playoff aspirations.
