FORMER CUB ALL-AMERICAN STARTS IN SECONDARY FOR SUPER BOWL CHAMPIONS
DAVID LONG, JR, ‘16 who was named a first team All-American, earned All-State first unit honors as well as CIF Southern Section Division I accolades as a two-way star on Loyola’s 2015 squad which finished 17th in the final state rankings, became the first former Cub player in history to start for an NFL Super Bowl championship team.
Yesterday, LONG, a slot corner, tied for seventh on the tackles list (three solo, four total) for the Los Angeles Rams in their 23-20 victory over the Cincinnati Bengals before a crowd of 70,948 at SoFi Stadium in Super Bowl LVI.
Long, who was an All-Big 10 corner at Michigan, before being drafted by the Rams, is in his third NFL season. His teammate COLEMAN SHELTON ‘13 is the second team center for the Rams. An All-Serra League lineman at Loyola, SHELTON was a team captain and All-Pac-12 offensive lineman at the University of Washington. He started every preseason game and two regular season games at center for Los Angeles.
LONG and SHELTON are the first Cub grads to earn Super Bowl rings.
