Former Loyola player Adam Guerra '03 takes head coaching job in Chicago
Former Loyola lineman ADAM GUERRA '03 is leaving St. Bonaventure High School in Ventura where he served as the varsity head football coach for the past three seasons. He recently accepted an offer from St. Patrick High School in Chicago to lead the Shamrocks' varsity football program as head coach. His wife has many family members who live in the Windy City, and that played a significant role in his decision to relocate his family to the Midwest. Guerra, a USC graduate, holds a Masters degree from Loyola Marymount University. Following his graduation from Loyola, Guerra taught AP history at his high school alma mater for three years while serving as a Cub assistant coach.
Guerra coached lower division football and was a varsity assistant at Loyola during his undergraduate years at USC. He also served as Loyola's varsity interim head coach for the final six games of the 2009 season at the age of 24. Guerra thereafter took over the reins as the head varsity football coach at St. Monica High School where he had great success from 2010-2013 before he was hired as the head man at St. Bonaventure in 2014. He led the Seraphs to the playoffs in each of his three seasons as head coach.
Guerra was a starting offensive guard under head coach STEVE GRADY on the 2002 Loyola team that advanced to the semifinals of the CIF Southern Section Div. I playoffs. He was recognized as the squad's Most Dedicated Player.
Quarterback of Loyola's 1990 CIF Div. I title team named head coach at McClintock High School in Arizona
CORBY SMITH '91, who was an All-Angelus League signal caller on Loyola's 1990 CIF Southern Section Division I championship team that defeated Quartz Hill at Anaheim Stadium in one of the more exciting games in Cub Football annals, was recently named the head football coach at McClintock High in Tempe, Arizona.
Smith, whose late father Larry Smith was the head coach at USC during his playing days under head coach Steve Grady at Loyola, played quarterback for his father at USC. After his father took over the head job at Missouri, Smith transferred to Iowa where he played under coaching iconHayden Fry. Corby founded the Larry Smith Coaching Academy and has been an assistant coach on the high school level in Arizona where he spent much of his youth before his father took over as the head coach at USC. He coached under his father for six years at Missouri before going into the sales field. Smith returned to coaching on the high school level in 2012.

DAVID LONG '16, a CalHi Sports All-State first team and All-American defensive back on Loyola's 2015 squad that finished its 9-3 campaign ranked 17th in California, was the fastest Michigan football player in an impromtu 200-yard race that was recently run at the urging of head coach Jim Harbaugh against seven of the Wolverines' other fastest players.
