Former Cub MVP shining for Washington Huskies
MYLES BRYANT '16 was the MVP on Loyola's 2015 varsity football squad that finished the season 9-3 and ranked 17th in the state. He was a supremely talented do-it-all athlete who starred as a defensive back, defensive end, wide receiver, running back, kick returner and punt returner. One of the best pure athletes to ever don Cub Blue, Bryant was a big contributor to Loyola's success in 2015. He was, in two words, a difference maker.
Bryant was offered a scholarship by the University of Washington in the late summer of his senior year, but did not immediately accept as he had had several other offers, including from, among others, Colorado, and several other prominent schools promised offers that ultimately did not come to fruition. The Huskies ultimately filled the position, forcing them to withdraw the scholarship offer. So Bryant decided to attend Washington, which was always at or near the top of his list of desired collegiate destinations, as a non-scholarship preferred walk-on, and he was determined to earn a scholarship. And that he did, after playing - and making his mark - in eleven of fourteen games as a true freshman in 2016 for a Washington squad that made the College Football Playoffs as one of the top four teams in the nation.
In the Huskies' season opening 30-14 victory over Rutgers last Friday, Bryant was all over the field as a nickel corner. He recorded seven tackles, including five solos, a tackle for loss and two pass breakups. Co-defensive coordinator/secondary coach Jimmy Lake was effusive in his praise of Bryant calling him the defense's Swiss Army knife. Tolbert twins making their mark at the University of San Diego
Twins DAVID and DANIEL TOLBERT '16 were major contributors to Loyola's 2015 campaign as wide receivers/DBs and are now displaying their prowess as sophomores at the University of San Diego. In the Tereros 34-20 opening game victory over Western New Mexico, David led the team with nine solo tackles as a starting corner, while Daniel had two tackles as a back-up DB and dime back. David is also USD's starting kick and punt returner.
Loyola looks to rebound against St. Augustine on Friday
Loyola is looking to rebound from a tough loss at the hands of Santa Margarita Catholic last Friday, as the Cubs are heading down I-5 Friday to take on the Saints of St. Augustine at San Diego Mesa College (7250 Mesa College Drive). Kickoff is at 7:00 p.m.

At 5:00 p.m. on Friday in Lot #2 of the Mesa College stadium parking lot, the San Diego Chapter of the Loyola High School Alumni Association is having a tailgate to which all Loyola football parents, alumni and supporters are invited.
