Loyola has won six CIF Southern Section football championships and played in an additional six CIF Large Schools title games . . . The Cubs have won 38 league championships . . . Loyola is sixth on the state list of schools with the most all-time football victories . . . .The Big Blue has been named State Team of the Year four times . . . The Cubs won a school-record 37 league games from 1960-1966 . . . Loyola still holds the CIF Southern Section Large Schools record for most consecutive victories (35) from 1962-1964 . . .After winning the CIF AAAA title in 1975 the Cubs were declared National Champions by the National Sports News Service . . . Ten Loyola football players have been named CIF Southern Section Large Schools Players-of-the-Year . . . From 1988 through 2005, the Cubs played in the CIF Southern Section championship game seven times and competed in the semifinal round of the playoffs 12 times in those eighteen seasons . . .Loyola has participated in the CIF Large Schools football playoffs in 46 seasons since private schools were first invited to participate in the postseason in the 1940s . . . From 1986 through 2005 the Cubs advanced to at least the quarterfinal round of the CIF Southern Section Division I playoffs in every one of those 20 campaigns . . . No school in the Mission League has won more CIF Large School championships than Loyola . . . 140 Cubs have been named to All-CIF honor teams . . . Loyola's 2015 squad was ranked 17th in the state . . .The 2000 Cub squad was ranked 15th in the nation . . .After going 12-0 and winning the 1962 CIF AAAA title for a second consecutive season, Loyola was ranked second in the nation . . . The Cubs' all-time record against its current league opponents is 108-72-3 . . . The Cubs' record against last season's CIF Div. I champion, St. John Bosco, is 30-10-1 . . . Two former Loyola stars are current starters in the NFL . . . Last season 10 former Cubs were playing football in the Pac-12 Conference . . . Entering the 2016 season 99 Loyola players had been honored as National Football Foundation and College Hall of Fame Scholar Athletes.
