Loyola's home football venues over the last 90-plus seasons - new on campus stadium in the plans
Where Xavier Center now stands, there used to be large wooden grandstands behind the east sideline of what is now Hank Hernandez Field. The Cubs played their home football games at that stadium in the 1920s, 1930s and 1940s. For some games in the '40s Loyola called the long since razed Gilmore Field near Farmer's Market home.
Beginning in the 1950s the Big Blue played its home contests at Rancho Cienega Park's Jackie Robinson Stadium near Dorsey High School. From 1965 through 1979 the Cubs called Inglewood's Sentinel Field home. In 1980 and 1981, Loyola's home games were played at now-defunct Aviation High School in Redondo Beach.
From 1982 through 2006 most of the Cubs' home games were played at Glendale High School's Moyse Field. Some contests during that time frame were played at Pierce College in Woodland Hills and East Los Angeles College in Monterey Park.
During the 1980s through the first decade of the 21st Century, Loyola occasionally hosted games at Santa Monica College. Beginning in the second half of the New Millennium's first decade, the Cubs called Monarch Stadium at Los Angeles Valley College in Valley Glen their home.
In 2014, Loyola played its first on-campus varsity football game since 1949. Temporary stands were placed over the track at Bob Smith Field, portable lights were put in place, and Venice Boulevard was closed from Vermont to Normandie (to accommodate parking) for the non-league contest against St. Augustine of San Diego.
In 1915 and 1916 all of the Cubs' home games were played at Bob Smith Field on campus, and will continue to be for the foreseeable future until a permanent on-campus home stadium is built. Design plans exist for the campus stadium, the work on which should commence once the necessary funds are raised.
Among venues used by Loyola for CIF Large Schools playoff games over the last century have been El Camino College in Torrance, Cerritos College in Norwalk and Santa Monica College.
