Cub Football - Four Loyola grads earn All Pac-12 Conference accolades, believed to be a record
Four former Cub football standouts earn All-Pac-12 honors
The Pac-12 Conference announced its All-Conference football team on December 5, and four Loyola grads earned spots on the honor squad.
COLEMAN SHELTON '13, who was an All-Serra League tackle for Loyola in 2012, made the first team All-Pac-12 unit. Shelton won the University of Washington's John P. Angel Offensive Lineman of the Year Award as the Huskies' starting center for the second time and also earned the squad's prestigious Academic Achievement Award.
USC had two former Cub stalwarts achieve All-Conference recognition. Linebacker CHRISTIAN RECTOR '14, an All-Mission League defensive end and Loyola's Defensive MVP in 2014, was named a Second Team linebacker on the Pac-12 honor squad. Rector recorded 35 total tackles, including 21 solos, 11 tackles for loss, seven-and-a-half sacks, six quarterback hurries and two fumble recoveries. Former All-CIF, All-State and Serra League Most Valuable Offensive Lineman CHRIS BROWN '14 received Honorable Mention on the All-Conference team. He is USC's starting left guard. Rector and Brown will be playing for the Trojans against Big 10 champion Ohio State in the Cotton Bowl in Dallas on December 29.
Washington corner MYLES BRYANT '16, who was All-Mission League, All-State Special Mention and the Cubs' MVP as an all-purpose star on Loyola's 2015 squad that completed its 9-3 campaign as the seventeenth-ranked team in California, earned Honorable Mention All-Pac-12 accolades. He also won the Tough Husky Award at the team's football banquet last weekend. Bryant had 52 tackles, including 34 solo stops, four tackles for loss, a pick six, eight passes broken up and a fumble recovery during the regular season. Bryant and teammate Coleman Shelton will be starting for Washington against Penn State in the Fiesta Bowl in Phoenix on December 30.
It is believed this marks the first time in Cub Football annals that four former Loyola players earned All-Conference accolades in the same collegiate conference in the same season.
