Cub Football - Five Loyola Juniors receive Cal-Hi Sports All-State recognition
A RECORD FIVE LOYOLA PLAYERS NAMED TO CAL-HI SPORTS ALL-STATE JUNIOR TEAMS
Loyola is projected to field a formidable football squad in the coming season with over 20 players returning who started and/or were major contributors on its 2024 CIF Southern Section Division 3 semifinalist team, along with the members of the undefeated (10-0) league champion sophomores team.
A total of five Cubs were named to the Cal-Hi Sports All-State Junior teams.
Running back SEAN MORRIS II (5-10, 195) and corner BRANDON LOCKHART (6-3, 173) were first team honorees.
Kicker JACOB KREINBRING (6-0, 195) was accorded second team honors, while offensive tackle NATHAN TURK (6-3, 280) and defensive end MAX MEIER (6-5, 250) were named to the third team.
KREINBRING was also tabbed as an All-State kicker on the Sporting News’ All-State squad after making 11 of 14 field goals, including a long of 51 yards, and converting 41 of 42 PAT kicks.
LOYOLA PLAYERS CONTINUE TO ADD SCHOLARSHIP OFFERS
Junior running back SEAN MORRIS II, who will be competing to set the Loyola career rushing yards record this fall, has eight FBS scholarship offers according to various prep football recruiting publications. MORRIS’s list of suitors to date includes Arizona, Boston College, California, Nevada, San Diego State, SMU, Syracuse and Washington.
MAX MEIER, a 6-5, 250 lb. defensive end, is seeing his recruiting status explode with 16 current offers from Arizona, Arizona State, California, Colorado State, Columbia, Illinois, Kansas, Northwestern, Oregon State, Pennsylvania, Princeton, San Diego State, Stanford, Washington, Wisconsin and UCLA.
Junior All-American corner BRANDON LOCKHART is a USC commit but also has offers from Arizona, Auburn, BYU, Georgia, Illinois, Miami, Michigan State, Nevada, Notre Dame, Oregon, Penn State, San Diego State, San Jose State, Tennessee, Texas A&M, Utah, Washington and Washington State.
Junior wide receiver MARKUS KIER’s scholarship list to date includes California, Colorado State, Illinois, Kansas and UNLV.
Offensive tackle NATHAN TURK sports offers from academic elites Brown, Columbia, Cornell, Dartmouth and Harvard.
It is expected that more Cub grinders will be receiving scholarship offers in the coming months.
FORMER CUB GEORGE PATON ‘87 PRESIDED OVER DENVER BRONCOS TEAM THAT MADE NFL PLAYOFFS FOR FIRST TIME SINCE 2015
Former Loyola football MVP GEORGE PATON ‘87 has proven an excellent General Manager for the Denver Broncos, who made their first NFL playoff appearance this season since 2015. PATON is entering his fifth year as Denver’s GM.
NEXT STEP FOR CUB SENIORS
Senior All-CIF Div. 3 outside linebacker SCOTT TAYLOR (6-4, 235) will be a scholarship player at UCLA this fall, while All-League senior defensive back BROCK BOJORQUEZ inked with Johns Hopkins University.
Former Cub star DB ZAKHARI SPEARS ‘21 has transferred from Connecticut to the University of Idaho where he plans to start in the secondary for the Vandals.
